Double Bass Lembrancas - Rory Stuart (also need a little help)

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure this might get bounced but: me and my band are working on this tune called Lembrancas, by Rory Stuart. I wish I could link you guys to a youtube video - but unfortunately there is none.

The whole thing is based on a 6/8 - and i'm really struggling with the time signature and the tune. Can some one please help me a with a few 6/8 - open feel - bass grooves that i can try. I've spent some time looking but haven't managed. Maybe even links to other tracks would help.

I've tried messing around with the footprints bass line and playing it, in the key of A (which is the key of this tune) but i can only do that for so long. The thing is, the B part of lembrancas goes into a straight 3/4 walk - so the open groove I have to come up with, has to make that change distinct.

Help please? This is really doing my head in.

The thing about a open feel in 6/8 is drifting back and forth between the 3 and the 2. But I'm not really sure what you're looking for here. Do you not have a recording of the tune? If you're not emulating what the rhythm section on the recording is doing and you're doing your own arrangement, then what do you HEAR going on? Do that.

Thanks for getting back to me - i know i'm asking for a lot and really giving nothing for anybody to work with. For what it's worth, that's what it feels like to me. We actually have sheet music just for the head - which we play through great - but suddently when it's time to start soloing, everything just shuts down in a way.

My drummer is really great but it the task feels more than impossible if i start listening to him. He likes to break things up, syncopate, 'open it up', is what he calls it.

ah and, i can't buy the recording - that's only for US users.. therein lies the final blow : )
