Les claypool distortion, need help!

This has been discussed numerous times and, in the end, the edge that he gets is combination of several factors, including his basses, effects, amps and cabs.

Simply put, there isn't any one single pedal which will allow you to ape his sound - it's a combination of things.

I actually dont want all of his sound/tone, im looking for an overdrive or dist that sounds well defined and not so overdriven like he's got.

Thx for all the answers ppl.

"Old" is understating the fact. It's vintage, and no, it's not on the market. I understand that it's a fairly run of the mill fuzz box with a wah filter circuit that can be set to a fixed point by the knob on top. So, try fuzzes and wahs in fixed positions, you'll get close.

I really want that distortion/overdriven sound he gets on songs like holy mackerel (on highball with the devil). I know its a combination of him and his gear, but surely someone must have some idea, perhaps own a pedal that has a similar tone to it? Any ideas??
The sound im talking about is different to the john the fisherman sound...

That whole Highball with the Devil CD was pretty much just Les going direct at his home studio "Rancho Relaxo". I don't think it was a stompbox effect but just him overdriving his mixing board. It's like the early Nine Inch Nails albulms, just getting distortion overdriving the board's input stages.

I GOT ONE THATS DAMN CLOSE! i was playing this morning with my ibanez pd7 phat-hed and discovered that if I use it with no dist and no attak it gives a nice boost, getting some over the top (and not harsh at all) treeble. Then i maxed my SVP drive and GOD DAMN! i've been bothering my whole neighbourghood with laquerhead bass lines all the day long.
BTW im using my vigier bass wich has very mid range tone so with some other basses you might want to cut a little bit the bass to get a closer tone, have fun I did/I am/I will :D!
