Les Claypool's new bass

I’m digging the tremolo bar.
Vibrato: Up and/or down shifting of pitch. Done by stretching or loosening strings. IOW, the 'whammy bar'.

Tremolo: Rapid/repetitive increase and/or decreases of volume. Done electronically. Think of The Smiths-How Soon is Now intro.

Fender mucked up the original definitions by calling it a tremolo bar on the instrument, and a vibrato knob on their amps.

I really like the Fender-esque style of this bass! As much as I like basses with natural finish and visible wood figuring, I think this new Pachyderm bass looks incredible.

I bet weight had something to do with this design. I bet his old Carl Thompson fretless 6 string weighed about 15 pounds!

You've never played a CT have you... haha.

Carl's basses are super thin and lightweight. My 38" 6 String is 9.6lbs and he told me that was the heaviest bass he'd built in years. Some of his 4 strings are incredibly light - just over 5 lbs.

Nope, I stand corrected. Looks heavy and is heavy are two different things.

Interesting, I though the Rainbow bass was retired because of it's massive weight. Claypool has favoured smaller, lighter instruments for a long while now.
