Very brave attempting that neck to body mating. One of the hardest tricks in luthierdom is to mate a mismatched tenon and mortise (the neck and neck pocket).

I'm not sure which would take longer, carving a block to mate the two, or starting with a whole new neck that is made specifically for your pocket (body and pant$ pocket).

You've got a beautiful Body there (would you hold it against me? LOL), great recovery from the Gib's dumpster.

Hawk, the reason I started bugging you is to fill in some holes in your project with a link, the Hipshot SuperTone Bridge.

If you haven't considered it yet, and I haven't seen anyone else spit their 2 cents, bigger bridge = bigger tone, and this is one of the best looking replacements I've seen for the Gibber's. Plus, adjustable string radius! Always a bonus when building.

Testimonial: I've always had excellent service from Hipshot, even buying their tuners secondhand. My last singer snapped off an Ultralite tuner with his T-shirt (stay on your side of the stage, man!) one phone call, and they offered a replacement in trade for the broken one. Pretty slick.

Can NOT wait to see this project finished, please clue us all in to how it's going.

Probably haven't mentioned it because it's not ment for a carved top bass, wouldn't fit on.

Hey dudes, thanks for the input. I've got the neck figured out I think. I made some shims for the sides and an angled block for the bottom and it seems to all fit well, so now I will repeat the process with some good wood - maple and mahogany. If I get in some shed time over the next week or two I should have the neck glued in place.

As for the bridge, I bought a 3-point but I would consider a Supertone if it would fit. I had the same opinion as Darkstrike - they don't fit arch top bodies. Crimsonghost -do you have any pics of one fitted to an archtop?

In other news, I just got back from seeing Alice in Chains in Montreal and Toronto. Killer shows - the boys are on fire. Mike Inez is certainly a friendly dude. If it had been just my wife and I at the meet and greet I think he would have chatted with us the whole time.

Got it all figured out and parts bought, but got distracted with other things. A buddy gave me a p-bass body so I switched to refinishing that. I will certainly post when I get something else done.

Ideas? Wait until you see one for sale and buy it! Nah, it's a bit of fun. Not ncessarily a cheap way into a LP bass though. If you had to pay to get the work done it would be more expensive than just buying one. I think those Gibson necks are still on ebay. There's a link earlier on in this thread.
