Less power, more sound?

Hi from Sweden,
I got a Glockenklang Soul top with the Quattro 4*10, 4 ohm cab. As now it puts out 440 watts. I'm looking to increase my volume and was thinking that if I add a Glock Duo 2*10, 4 ohm cab I will get that... The choice to use the Duo cab alone at small gigs is also something that I want to benefit from, therefore I'm not interesting in any larger extra cab.

Problem is that the top will then put out 250 watts into the 8 ohm load that I would have to use since the top won't like any load less then 4 ohm. What do you guys think, will the increase in air moved be enough to get the result I need even though the power is less?

Unless your head is unusual, putting those two cabinets together will not yield an 8 ohm load (as in a series connection) but a 2 ohm load (as in a parallel connection).

These would be the case whether you run each cab from an individual output on the head or whether you "daisy-chain) the two cabs--again, unless the amp or the cabs are wired in an unusual way.

If you do this, you need to be sure that the amp can tolerate a 2 ohm load.
 
Do I understand you correctly in that I will not be able to hook up the two cabinets in series? I always thought that if I connect one speaker to the other this makes it a serial connection, thanks for clearing that out! How then would I go in order to get them to run in serial since the top do not want anything lower then 4ohm?
 
So you're thinking of chaining them together? Because if you plug them both into the head, that's 2 Ohms, no? (More asking to confirm my limited knowledge of the whole serial/parallel thing)

Guess it depends on the volume issue. If you can't hear yourself and that's it, I don't know that this would solve it. If others in the band were having issues, it could arguably spread the sound more.
 
My knowledge of parallell/series could also be better... :confused: Anyway, yes I do not want 2 ohms and that would happen if I take the connections from the 2 outputs at the back of the Soul top. I thought that if I daisy chain them I would get a series connection and thus 8 ohm from two 4 ohm cabs.

It will be about even, not much benefit or loss. Maybe if the new second cab was another 410 instead of a 210 there might be enough greater air movement to be worth it. And the other guys are right that generally cabs are wired so that if you connect one in a chain to the other, you'll actually be making a parallel connection, even though they appear externally to be "in series". You can get a special adapter cable for series wiring, but again there would not be so much benefit once the load goes to 8 ohms.

What I'd do instead is buy two new 8 ohm cabs for the louder gigs- connected they will have a 4 ohm total load. Yes, that is a lot more money than just buying a single 2x10, but it will work a lot better.
 
+1 to the above.... either from the head or daisy-chaining the cabs, it will be parallel, and you will have 2ohm nominal impedance.

The Soul head, IMO and IME, is not a particularly loud 440 watts. The head is the problem IMO, not the cab.

A Series adaptor makes no sense to me at all... you will probably 'bread even' on the volume, and spend a bunch of money and carry a bunch more stuff to the gig.
