Oh, and put flat wound strings on that bass. I use LaBella flat wounds, but there are a lot of good brands out there.

I have had a few Hofner copies some good some not so much,I have many aches and pains and need a light instrument.I do own 2 Icons and am happy with them.I put Flats on them and changed the plastic tuning pegs for metal ones,real easy swap.I saved the old pegs and changed volume knobs and removed the guards.These instruments caught my eye because they were colored instead of the brownish one Sir Paul uses.I do want a traditional one though.My favorite of the copies was the Epiphone Viola.I would like some advice though.I want to change a pickup on one of the Hofners because I would like a slight difference in sound and was gonna start looking for a replacement pickup maybe a Duncan or Bartolini or EMG.Oh I like that Ric the green one,Isaw that model and might try and get it.Happy New Years fellow bassist's

Violin vs. Club

I'm considering the Club. Is there a big difference in tone or is it just aesthetics?

Solely aesthetics. Also, there are rumors the Club has flimsy/cheap tuners. The Violin is fine, to me. But then again, I haven't played a CT Club.

I have an Icon Club and an Icon violin bass. Both are great, and sound very similar. Tuning pegs are fine, ie they work.

Both are short scale 30" basses, but the Club feels shorter, since the tail piece is shorter.

My Icon Club has the same tuners as on my Icon/Ignition violin. No problems with either.

Just to update, I'm loving this bass. I'm actually trying to balance just reading tabs and playing songs along with actually trying to learn how to play bass in general

Just a curious question (since I'm not left handed anyway)...but why are the lefty versions of the icon $30 more than the right handed versions? (at least this is the case at GC)

I had an Icon Club. Essentially a different shaped violin bass. It was a beautiful little bass, and the Roto RS88S tape wounds made it sound woody and thunky. I sold it though, after only several months because:
- I just didn't dig the delicate feeling short scale
- the weightlessness I couldn't get used to (the guy who bought it had a back issue so this was a welcomed feature for him).
- limited tone options, but a great one trick pony
- as for playability I didn't like the strings way up off the body and the pickups sitting up so high.

I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs and I couldn't find the comfort zone with this bass.
So ends my unprofessional 2¢ on the matter.

It bummed me out so I went looking for another deal and wandered into a used CT Club on Music Go Round for $350. It's a black one (which would not be my first pick) but the price is really good for a CT so I picked it up.
