A Ripper or G3 is on my list of basses to grab at some in a lifetime.
Since a Pilot was mentioned in the start of this thread, here's my ride or die. Bought it used in 1990 and have had other basses in that time, but I will never, ever get rid of this. I don't actually have any real desire for another 4 string fretted electric (it's my only one now) since it'd never take the place of this one and would just sit unplayed, anyway.
I felt the same once I got my Pilot. Between the light weight, the feel of the neck and the vintage EMGs it went to the top. If it was rock based Id usually grab my L2000 but anything else I went with the Pilot. Even with it being rock I would question with the P/J set up would do over the in your face MFDs.
Funny story... it was originally black, although when I got it it had a huge chip in it near the jack. A drummer I was playing with at the time said that his dad had a '72 Precision but had a bad back and wanted something lighter and asked if I would be interested in trading the two.Who stripped it? ....looks good.
I told him I would try it out for a while - theoretically the Fender was worth way more and was "my birth year bass" - but didn't want to commit right away, but I guess he didn't bother to tell his father that? Anyway, the Fender weighed a ton and I didn't like the P bass neck and I eventually asked for my Pilot back and that's what it looked like when we swapped back and apparently his dad was super pissed. He had done the exact same finish on the Precision so I guess it was his thing.
When I was gigging, I used the BG 500 as a practice amp because it is so dang HEAVY!I couldn't help but notice the BG500 115 combo in the background, I had one.
Just curious your thoughts on it. I personally liked it a lot.
I got a great deal on it … like $350 … and It's a nice amp with a lot of cool options and features but it's just too heavy for me to lug around. Especially because my practice space is in the third floor loft in my house.

This my ride or die bass, which happens to be my cheapest bass and the bass I've owned the longest: a black holo-flake Squier Jazz bass. It cost about $300 some 20 years ago, boughten for me by my dear friend Dan (RIP) when I was way down on my luck and just about outdoors. I will never, ever part with this bass for any reason. It mainly lives in its case in my tornado safe room, but I do pull it out every once in awhile when I'm missing my bro.
Ok the attachment to mine is because of how it came to me all jacked up and I got it together and playing pretty well considering how I had to re bolt the neck and level the frets but yours is on a whole nother level. Family is on that level. Awesome story, awesome bass! Thanks for sharing!
I'd pick it up and just run thru some scales or for 5 min here and there but that's it. When I started to look to play again
( long story ) my wife was "can you really play, you just pluck at it…". So I did buy a used case at Rock'in Robin in Houston for $20 when moving to So Cal and put it in it , wrapped duct tape around it over the locks , and in it went into the moving van. Weeks later I found it and still almost in tune and stuck it in the garage.
The Roto's are 10+ years old as I don't play it much. The one time I took it to use at a show once, the volume pot was shot and the tone knob fell off. Anyway, I'll not sell it. This is the only pic I have of it.
