Post a pic and tell us all about it.

I have to snap a pic of my Usa Chaparral 5-string for this thread. Got it in a trade for a Gibson SG guitar few years ago. At one point when I was shedding almost all gear it was my only bass left and eventually reignited the bass playing passion because it's that good.

It's been played and beaten, I fell on it once and it's still going. I just have to replace some tuners and the electronics that have gone a bit scratchy (bought those already, but not installed). It's my "never to be sold" bass.

The other day a guy walked into my local shop with a minty older Hamer 8 string bass for a setup. I'd never seen one quite like it. Shaped like an Explorer-ish thing with a pair of T-bird tin cans, and finished entirely in a dazzling CAR metal flake paint job with giant metal flakes. An older dude, he said he'd had it since ~1990, I suspect he's the original owner.

Not my cuppa, but I have to admit being impressed with the build. A real eye popper of a bass for sure. Didn't have a chance to talk with him, but wondering if it was a Hamer custom build or a seldom seen stock model....anyone?

That's a beauty.

I get the semi-hollow deal, especially considering the added heft of the 2Tek. Curious, how big is the chamber and what's the weight on that pretty badgirl?

Bass weighs (bathroom scale) about 7.8 lbs... Definitely one of a kind 2nd gen 2tek CB; body made of mahogany with flamed maple top....

Had my friends at HFC.com a while back send out specs sheets for a similar chambered Hamer bass (former co-worker of Jol's at Hamer's Chicago shop)… not exact specs, but should give you an idea:

From your description it was probably based on Sting's custom fretless:
