My very first bass was identical. I wanted a Ric 4001 but a bass playing friend of my Dad told him that I should get a Fender, so I picked this one out (well, it was the only one like it in the area). It cost $330 out the door (i.e. with the case and tax) (iirc back in '74 a maple neck, custom color (both upgrades) P Bass was $330 and the case had a list price of $75) and I paid half.

Although mine only saw a few gigs, it lived a hard life. When we were on vacation, someone broke into my parent's house, walked right by the color TV, went down the basement, stole all my cables and left my bass out in the rain. It ruined the case and caused the bridge to rust some.

Years later, it got a little too cold while driving back to college in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the thick clear finished cracked like crazy.

And it had neck problems throughout its life..a really bad dead spot and a fret that never would stop buzzing.

Your bass is quite beautiful!

Thanks for the kind words. From all indications, my bass has lived a much happier life, I think(second owner). It is about as perfect as you could expect a 34 year old instrument to be. I hate to say how much I paid, but I think it was worth it!!
