Let's spread some musical misinformation

Recent acoustic archaeology has confirmed that the original 1950 Precision Bass prototypes were not, in fact, tuned to E-A-D-G. Leo Fender, a keen amateur seismologist, initially tuned his test basses to the fundamental resonant frequencies of the major tectonic plates (Pacific, North American, etc.). His working theory was that a bassist could achieve maximum "global groove" by locking in with the planet’s own subsonic hum.

He only abandoned the concept after the 1951 San Clemente earthquake, which he was convinced his test player had inadvertently triggered by playing an overly aggressive root-fifth pattern. The standard E-A-D-G was a hasty, and far less ambitious, replacement.
