I'm not doing splitting with the Rick.


Sold the Optostomp cause I wanted room on the board and could always get a rackmount compressor.

Here is my rack set up from top to bottom:

Shure PGX14 Wireless (you can get a rack mounting kit)
Korg DTR 2000 Tuner
Tech 21 RBI
DBX 1066 Compressor
Furman Conditioner (Merit Series)
GK 2001

I really like the dbx and did not notice how much I liked it until I ran my rig one weekend without. The Korg is a great tuner with features that I don't even use. I have it wired from the back of the GK into it but you can also plug into the front of it.

Ah just the right person for the thread :)

Let me ask you about the DBX 1066 then. How does it do with the Rick? Ricks with over compression sound horrible so I want to avoid that.

Also, how does it do with effects like fuzz? I don't want that sounding different.

IMO, Jovi, your rack is going to feature some serious overkill. :hmm:

Personally, I've yet to hear a rig which benefited from BBE and other "enhancers" in a live setting... but as a disclaimer, I should also point out that they were being used to compensate for some poor quality gear with bad EQ settings. I have not yet seen a good (in my opinion) local band bassist who has used one live.

For me, a compressor, tuner, and amp have been enough. Plus a simple rack power supply, of course. And I don't even use a compressor right now (but if I did, I'd likely be sporting a dbx 160A, for the clean results and simplicity). A good compressor can often do a better job for clarity at high volumes than a rack of enhancers.

Besides, do you really need more than 6 spaces? :hmm:

But since you asked... a Korg DTR-1000 will complement your rig nicely. It's never failed me live. :)

I've never used any dbx compressors with a Rick, though.

Well I plan on getting a 6U rack and getting rid of the 8U rack. 3U for the GK, 1 for the Tuner, one for compressor, one more power. The Aphex might go if the DBX goes nicely. So far it's the DBX 1066 vs the DBX 160[x or a]

You might want a rackmount NES with a Game Genie, then. :D

Oh, that reminds me... doesn't Walbassplayer use a dbx 160?

I'm not sure whether it's the X or A version that he has.

Bug him about it on TT. After all, he has a Rick of his own. ;)

The Ric does not sound squished IMO and all I use are Rics. I have had a number of compliments on my sound.

The 1066 is a 2 channel and I am using both channels. I find the 1066 very transparent. It might brighten the sound just a little but that could be my imagination. It might be more of an evening out of my tone. I ran a LBM through it with no problems. The LBM was as crazy as ever. But I also am not using big compression. I am at 2/1 maybe 3/1 at the most. As I said I did not realize how much I liked having the compressor until I ran my rig one weekend without the compressor.

I really like how the compressor evens out my sound out on stage. I can still create dynamics but every stage is different and IMO the compressor kind of levels the playing field a bit for me.

I was heading for the dbx 160 (x or a) until the 1066 came up in the Classifieds. I think I asked Bongo a couple of questions about it as it wasn't part of his compressor reviews. It is probably more complicated and more compressor then I need but the price was right. There is also a Gate/Limiter on each channel that I am not using.

I tried a BBE 362. Wasn't for me. Seemed redundant with a compressor in my rack. Although I am sure it is not supposed to be anything like a compressor. I just couldn't figure out if it was actually doing anything.

I bought the RNC, but knowing what I know now, I'd have probably gone with the RNLA.
