I've been looking for the same thing. The John Davis Orbit demo vid gave me serious GAS for a tight gate to add to my favorite fuzzes, and right now I have to be content with my Blue Box and the analogue octave-up squeeze newbold was talking about.
Putting a harsh compressor before something that already has a light gate may do a bit to harsh it up, but I'll try it and report back.
What might also work is the Toadworks Enveloope. If you put it in reverse mode, don't connect the loop, and set the sensitivity and release just so you might be able to get a tight, stand-alone gate. Unfortunately I haven't tried one, so it's just a theory.
