Lets talk WARWICK ROCKBASS

Seems the Rockbasses have gone through an upswing in the past year. I remember a year or so ago people were selling 5-string Rock Basses for around $250. Don't seem to see them for that low anymore.

I still wish they didn't have the over-sized and type-casting RockBass on the headstock rather than a warwick W and something that identifies it as a reproduction.

Yea the big ol' ROCKBASS on the head is a bit obnoxious, the Warwick W does look a lot sleaker.

I agree, but I was in a tiny little shop where I live, and they had among a few others, 2 MiM Fenders, (a J and a P) and 2 Rockbasses, a passive Corvette and an active Streamer, and no matter how much I tryed to like the Fenders, I kept coming back to the Rockbasses... Saying that I now have a gorgeous Warwick Corvette $$

Rockbasses aren't "bad", it's just the build quality isn't as high as the MIG Wicks. And yes, the original Rockbasses(I've owned 2) were very poorly made. I played one in GC about four months ago and I was surprised at how nice it played. Maybe a new pre-amp, a nice new set of strings, and a pro set-up and any Rockbass would be good to go...

Except for the big stupid RockBass on the headstock. Bad enough fighting people's perceptions of 'expected' basses for gigs without the word ROCK on the headstock.

Just seems like a very limiting choice by Warwick.

I agree, but you could also use it to your advantage. Get people thinkin one way, and then hit em with some jazz fusion or something.....

:D

Unfortunately I have to agree with Baird6869. I have the same model, and I am not too happy about it. Since I did not know if fretless was "my thing" I bought a well known brand, but a cheap instrument (to minimize losses in case of a sale.)

Mine is a 2003 active Corvette in blue - at least it looks good!

Tone and volume is very uneven across the neck/strings, preamp is really noisy, there is a dead spot between D and F on the G-string, strap knob threads on the horn are not OK. etc. :hmm:

Biggest problem is that I can not find a tone I like from this thing. (And no, it is not ONLY skill that is missing...) ;)
And the output is much lower than what I get from my passive SDs in my P-bass.

However, the neck is nice, I like the body contour and balance, so I do not mind playing it.

Is there any way to make a "player" out of this one, or should I bite the bullet and trade it for a better instrument?

You need to take that bass into a tech. Sounds like it could have electronics issues.
