Well, I do not think the preamp is actually defect - it is just not well designed/engineered. It is a steady broad band hiss, and it will be attenuated by turning the treble or volume knob down. (It basically is the "noise floor" in the preamp that is very high.)
Tone and balance controls work the way they are supposed to.
And the other things are clearly not related to electronics.
Still, could it be a good investment to try to improve this Rockbass, or should I find a better instrument?
