The CopilotFX Broadcast is along these lines. The stock version doesn't do everything you have described but Adam is very willing to customize it to suit. He made me one with a footswitch to pass the exp in to the output and a switch to allow the exp in to control the ratio knob.

Yeah I saw that thing, very impressed. I'm thinking there is a cheaper route than the Moog MF-101/CP-201.

I wonder what the limitations of using an Iron Ether Xerograph/Custom Broadcast/ExpPedal are compared to the MF-101/CP-201 setup.

Obviously the CP-201 is extremely versatile and can be used with things other than a filter.

With your setup can you use the expression pedal as a multiplier for the tap-tempo-sync'd LFO?

The Moog has a few advantages over the Xerograph/Broadcast/Exp setup (which is exactly what I have). Namely it has 4 outputs, midi functionality and can store presets.

By the time you customize the Broadcast to your liking and add something like the Expressionator to control multiple units, you've basically paid for an MP-201 and still don't have the ability to store presets or talk to midi devices.

The main reason I steered away from the Moog was the fact that it outputs CV so I'd have to get my Xerograph (and whatever else I want to control) in a custom version. Pedals with Exp input are much more common these days, as far as guitar/bass stuff goes. CV is more common with modular synth gear. The other reason is the MP-201 is a lot bigger footprint and costs more, but if you can utilize its functionality I don't think either of those are a big deal.

Yes, the stock configuration allows that but does not allow you to bypass the LFO and send the exp signal to the LPF or whatever. I had him add that feature to mine. It's a touchy unit but there are lots of possibilities inside and it's very well built, so it's just a matter of learning to "play" the Broadcast.

Thank you, you have answered all my burning questions, including the one I didn't ask about CV versus standard expression. So the xerograph does not have a CV in, gotcha. Presets and MIDI are definitely not defining features that I need, plus I like supporting independents like Iron Ether and Copilot. Since I'm really digging the Copilot Cubic, it looks my whole board will be Copilot and Iron Ether when I'm finished. I'm psyched...

I don't mind at all! If you want the Broadcast with those features you can mention to Adam that I suggested it and he can do the same design (unless you want to do anything differently). He is great to work with.

FWIW, Taylor at IE can make a Xerograph that takes CV input, but then it cannot use EXP. It is one or the other.

Lots of Copilot and IE love from me: Cubic, Broadcast, Oxide and Xerograph Deluxe currently. I tried the Frantabit and will no doubt be after stuff from both of them in the future.

Moog EP-2 currently, but I may be changing to a modded EB VP Jr.

It's best that you tell Adam which one you'll be using so he can tune the Broadcast's input for it.

Why switching from the EP-2? most expression pedals aren't control voltage pedals, is this statement correct? Is there anything else out there that is like the mp-201 in that it uses a footpedal to do CV?

Jeff, does your broadcast have two expression inputs on it? and if so, do you use two expression pedals with it?

To answer your earlier post I would only be changing from the EP-2 for a different feel/more solid chassis. The internals work the best of the exp pedals on the market, IMO.

My Broadcast has 1 exp in which can be passed through to the output bypassing the LFO with a footswitch. When the LFO is active, the exp in can control the ratio. I discussed with Adam having a switch to choose whether it controlled ratio or range, but I was happy with this setup.

cool, I've never used the ep-2, but the ernie ball volume pedal has a very sturdy feel which I dig. I'm guessing the eb vp jr. works just as well straight into the xerograph as the ep-2. thanks for the clarification on the broadcast. Marc Sterling's broadcast is custom, but different, he uses two expression pedals with it.

edit: are you modding the VP JR. to avoid any possible tone suckage?

or I guess if it's just a volume pedal, you have to modify it to be a TRS expression pedal. Why not just go with the boss pedal in that case?

And here I was, thinking I was the only one looking for this solution. Come to find, there are ton of you out there, AND this thing called the bubble chamber will possibly solve all my desires.

I'll second that. I've read this thread about four times now. Thanks for your help everyone! I tried to get some joker to mod my MF-101 to have an LFO (which would have been AMAZING) but it took him 2 years to not get it working. Will probably give the CopilotFX Broadcast a go next.
