life conundrum: Buy second bass or replace Xbox?

Sorry about the rant. I actually stopped at Gamestop yesterday for a friend and looked at the prices of some of the used games.

That's the equivalent of walking into Guitar Center, looking at the typical used section offerings and saying "See, basses are far too expensive!" With games, like everything else, you have to look for the deals, they don't just prance around in front of you naked.

It sounds like you have a bass that works fine for you and it also sounds like you REALLY want the Xbox so I would go for the Xbox. I'm a little biased too though since I just got done with the most intense online NHL game of my life (I was down 2-0 in the first and I came back to win in dramatic fashion in the shootout )

Get a new bass, upgrade your current one, or if it plays great spend the cash on lessons or buy something from bassbooks.com Playing music is a real skill and one that can get you somewhere in life, possibly with the ladies...an Xbox can never do that. Good analogy. Still, the fact that such a vast majority of younger guys like myself, spend hundreds of dollars on these things just puzzles me. As I've said, I'm not anti video game, but some of these people are just ridiculous. I know several guys that just make gaming their life.

My advise to the OP, if you consider your bass up to par, I'd would stick with it, but if you feel you need a second bass, I'd go for it. I have heard that the return times on RROD Xbox's are not too bad these days, and I think it would be wiser to see if it can be done, before rushing out to buy another.

I do feel it's Microsoft's fault for living on such a faulty design (surprise, surprise) for so long.

Mine also got rrod. Still sitting in a box untouched. Know what I used the money I didn't use on the console for? A bass. I used to play guitar exclusively, now, instead of sitting around on the xbox all day, I play bass. I find it more satisfying than games.

Are you surely sure its dead? My Xbox 360 has had 3 RROD's the past 6 months. 2 have been power related, one drive related. The power ones were loose cables at the power supply/power lead end, and the drive error was fixed using percussive maintenance on the drive side (loose drive connector).

Apparently you can fix bad solders by wrapping it in towels or jamming the fan and overheating it too to rejoin the solder or something..but I'd never try that personally!!

Anyways, since I started playing Call of Duty I MUST have a working Xbox with Xbox Live running as its my daily stress relief. I'm still working my way through Black Ops (currently 6th prestige going to 7th) and have almost finished paying off MW3 on pre-order so I can start that one on the release date

I've got 4 basses, so I don't really have much to contribute to this thread. I really just wanted to talkXbox for a bit

In my case, I actually use my gaming for good AND music.

I play in a recently created video game band. We take music from the Nes and towards more modern stuff and arrange/cover it with a 7 piece jazz/latin band. We're all music students and composer/education majors, so we all get a huge kick out of it.

All that time spent playing video games in my youth WAS NOT wasted....

The stuff we play is everything from Chrono Trigger to Katamari Damaci....

Of course, there are always those who will take them too far. I can guarantee you that there are far more reasonable gamers out there than there are those that sit four feet for their TV screens twiddling their thumbs for 22 hours a day. A good portion of my friends are big gamers, as in, they play regularly but none are "losers sitting in a dark smelly basement" (that was for SaintMez, not you Motorhead ). In fact a good portion of them are on their way to becoming successful people (Doctors, lawyers, etc.).

I never have the most recent games for that reason. I bought a game for the first time this year and I sure didn't pay 60 for it. I'm a very casual gamer though.

I spend way more on a season pass to a local ski hill each year then on video games. But skiing and music are not as 'casual' for me as gaming is.

There's some good conversation here! As far as my bass goes, it's the OLP as in my sig, and lately I've been reminded of and hankering for an SX jazz, looking for new tones.

My RROD is an undetermined hardware failure, the drive and HDD have been ruled out, and judging by the dramatic freeze and crash that occured last time I played it, I'm thinking the GPU cooked itself. The towel trick and 12v fan mod worked for about a week.

So I guess to make this more specific, the bass in question that is weighing against the xbox is probably an Ursa 2. Now what's the say?

$60? $60!!!! Even with the strong Aussie dollar most new games are averaging around the $110 mark off the shelf. Add Call of Duty to the title, and it's $130 new on release. And for some reason, when it was first released, EB Games were selling Batman: Arkhum Asylum for $150.00! And not a special edition either, that was the pre-order price.

If you want a really rude shock, check the price of a newly released game, then go browse the pre-owned aisle for that same game and compare the price.

I'm right with you there, man. When games were $50 new I was cool with it but that $10 jump with the release of the current crop of consoles had me looking a lot more closely at my wallet, nowadays I only spend that $60 when the pre-order bonus is st00pid good (like $10-20 off my next purchase). I'm always hunting for video game deals and buying used when I can. Places like GameStop hate me because I'll walk in, ask a bunch of questions and then go spend my cash elsewhere, lol.

To be honest if you compared the AUS prices of anything to the prices anywhere else, the difference is astounding. In the US at least, games are $60.

Definitely the Xbox. I'm not an SX hater by any means but I see them as platform basses, as in, they are great if you intend on modding it. Otherwise, I suggest going Squier. Getting your Xbox fixed should only run you $100 if it's out of warranty so I'd say go for that since you still have a good functioning bass.
