life conundrum: Buy second bass or replace Xbox?

It's perfectly reasonable to both practice and play games. I practiced 4 1/2 hours today and played games. It's just about time management. Of course I probably would have done six if I wasn't playing cod.

It's funny how people who mock video games usually still watch a lot of TV, which I find the most useless and unsocial way to spend time. I'd always play a good game with some of my friends rather than watch TV.
I would also say that go for the Xbox and some nice co-op games, you can buy a new bass later. Have you btw considered some board games? You can get really good games for 20$ that you can play even for years with your friends.

My Xbox broke a couple months ago, Haven't really thought much of it, I put the money I was going to spend on a new one towards an Ibanez ATK, So if it were me I'd go with the bass.

To be honest if you compared the AUS prices of anything to the prices anywhere else, the difference is astounding. In the US at least, games are $60.

You already have a bass. I say get the Xbox and maybe play it a little less to get more bass playing in.

I had a very similar problem back in '08. I had the choice of replacing my xbox or buying my first bass after moving countries. Xbox was all i had known up to that point, video games were a 5 hour a day commitment. I was a gamer.
I decided to branch out a bit, and picked up a bass mostly as a challenge for myself, I was never into music but what the heck, I needed to find my place.
After getting into bass playing, getting an Xbox became a low priority. Even when I did get one, it broke (as they all do), and I traded it for a watch. Nice watch. I'm told the Xbox works fine at his house, totally worth it.
I've kicked my addiction, been playing music ever since, became the cool kid at school, got a beautiful, smart girlfriend and I couldn't be happier.
Please, don't buy an Xbox, they just break anyway!

The myopia of some folks... actually doesn't surprise me any more to be honest. You realize that you just said "kidding aside" only to reinforce the ideas that you were supposedly kidding about, right? My question is this, after playing bass for umpteen-odd years what have any of us accomplished? We are better musicians and doing so has led us to experiences that we might not have been a part of otherwise. Now tell me, how is that any different than gaming? People seem to like throwing around the term "waste of life" when they haven't really considered all sides of the argument.

You could practice bass and watch TV at the same time. I use to watch Family Guy or That Metal Show while practicing my bass. Commercial time=even more focus on the bass.

I stopped reading halfway through the second page because it became a pro/anti video game discussion.

But, OP, why can't you do both? I don't know about where you live, but where I live, there's a place called the Console Doctor that will repair RROD for $40, no matter what. My friend took his Xbox there and it worked great. Even cleaned the disc reader for free.


Call around or use the yellow pages or something and see if there's something similar. You could get it repaired and then work up that extra $40 for the bass.
