Light Amp for Gigging

I've been very happy with my Markbass Mini CMD 121p. It's so light, compact and sounds amazing!

Although most of my gigs lately have been 4 piece jazz gigs without a drummer. I've had plenty of headroom even without the extension cab!

Can't go wrong if you ask me!

Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0/12T combo. Plenty of power, great sound, clean or tube sound, and 36 pounds total weight. Can't beat it.

Another vote for the Carvin BX500 head. Very light and plenty of power for most anything but two-guitar metal. I originally bought one of the newer MarkBass heads for a lightweight amp option but returned it in favor of the Carvin, which reasonably comparable sound quality at far less cost.

Add a lightweight cab (I recommend a MarkBass 2x10 or 15) and you're good to go.

+100 - This is the BEST small combo you can get. 32 lbs and crazy loud with a fantastic tone. Bass in one hand and amp in another - what more could you want? I have a Schroeder 1212L cab that is only a little bigger and gives me a "stack" that is 3x12, 500W and fits in the trunk of my car.

The CMD 121P combo by itself is loud enough for nearly ANY indoor gig.

Blues Rock....

I've been gigging with a blues rock group with this Scout 12 plus Radiator 12 Extension. It's truly AMAZING!:

If money is of concern I'd agree with JimmyM that a pair of Ampeg 210's with a PF350 would fit the bill nicely. That's an amazing combo for the money. One of the best values in bass gear today IMO.

Play similar music and have back problems as well.

Very successfully use Streamliner 900 and one or two Genz Benz Neox112Ts. Cabinet is 30 something lbs, nothing vs the sound it puts out

Million opinions and recommendations here, this worked better than multiple misses past two years for me

im just adding to this thread because i know sfa and there are some great tips on this thread . one question any advantage to one big speaker vs 4 smaller?

:hmm:

I have big boxes (15s), medium boxes (12s or 10s), but this one is VERY good for the small, light-weight rig:

SIX 4-inch speakers.

Phil Jones Super Flight Case BG-300

Size: 19 x 12.6 x 16.1 inch (H x W x D)
Weight:33 lbs

Very Hi-Fi.

Pricey, though.

Have a suitcase & 4B extension cab that I bought used & that I love. Would love one of these, too, but wouldn't buy new. Have looked around quite a bit, but have never seen a used Super Flight Case. Guess they never sold many. And I can readily understand that, lol.

The amp is the least of your worries - tons of great 2-7lb heads out there that can tear paint off a wall. Cabinets otoh...depends on what kind of tone you like, how much stage you have to work with, size of your vehicle, etc. I've gigged everything from 1-10 to 8-10 and in between.

+1 and well said
Asking specific recommendations here with no background on your requirements just makes everyone defend what they bought or are sorry they sold

If you can get by with 250 watts, check out a Carvin Micro Bass. They make 1x10, 1x12 and 1x15 combo. You can add a 1x15 extension cab that will stack under any of the three combos. I have a little MB10 for practice and it plays over our drummer without a problem. All three combo amps are 200 watts by themselves. 250 watts with the addition of the extension cab.
