Light gauge vs Heavy gauge on a fretless

A few years back I went to my guitar repairman and told him my strings just weren't getting the mwah sound I wanted. He just smiled and said "You need to go to light gauge strings instead of the mediums you use." I did (begrudgingly) and discovered he was right. He is quite an accomplised bassist in his own right, and I should have trusted his judgement without doubting.
My current set of lites I use on my five string are Fender 7150 set with a B string I oredered seperately. Plenty ow nwah. I also use GHS Pressurewounds on my other fretless , also in light gauge.
