Light weight Music Man Stingray? Do they exist?

My Stingray Special weighs in at 7.5 pounds. My Ray 4 weighs in at 7.75 pounds.

They're out there......you just gotta take your time and not mind being the guy who is always asking for the weight of a bass being sold.

Is the Ray 4 the newer Sub series, or the older one with the large SUB text on the headstock? And is it a solid finish - I had read those were slightly heavier. And while on the topic, is it true that those a slightly smaller than say a Fender 34" scale?

I had two in the past and sold both of them, incredibly heavy basses. Ever since I started playing Ibanez SR basses, I just can’t play heavy basses anymore. It doesn’t matter how good they look or sound, I just can’t... and I’m only 39 years old haha.

Thanks, I hear ya! I have one that is over 11 lbs, can't do it anymore. My first one was an SR and I loved it. Regretted selling it.

I have owned two Ray 4's. Both were newer Indonesian models. One was incredibly heavy, the other incredibly light. The light ones are out there, you just gotta be patient. But when you find one, it's like striking gold.

Wow I wonder why the wide discrepancy! It's common to vary a pound or ounces, but light to heavy would make it really hard to find a good one!

I owned a BFR Ray that was 7lbs on the nose. Lightweight Rays do exist.

I've got a Sterling Ray 34ca that's over 11 lbs. I'd replace the body with a lighter one and keep the rest. It's a great bass, but I notice the knot in the back of my collar into the second set, every time.

Great opportunity to learn about grams! My slab classic is 3.86 kg. Comfortable with just a 2” nylon strap.

My EBMM SR5 HH 2017 model weighs a heavy 10.2 lbs...its nearly as heavy as my Peavey T-40 (10.8 lbs) lol

Maybe I'll just make a Thunderbird body from lightweight wood and attach the Sterling parts to it. I do get on with the Thunderbird ergonomics. That would solve the issue.
