Lightening the load, but still need "big" cabs

Yeah those neo prices bite like a cobra these days LOL

I put a set of Eminence Legend 15's in my Kasino 2x15 cab and I've had killer results. At $449, if the Carvin had crap woofers, a set of Kappa pro LFA's (I know, nowhere near as beefy as those 3015's are lol) would only set me back about $280. 1200w RMS along with those mid range drivers would be pretty sick! Of course if I come across $1600 of spending cash, I'll be splurging for the Greenboy slim 215 faster than a fart in the wind.

I did some looking. So I guess you have 3 options with the cab build. You can either have it made for you, have a "prefabbed flat" pack sent for you, and you can build it, or build it yourself with plans?

I wonder what the price differences would be? I'm pretty handy, and have tools, especially for wood working.

FWIW I and most of the other owners of this cab do not find it hard to EQ - IME/IMO you can get anything from sub-a-dubby to happy-n-slappy out of one of these cabs in seconds with even the most modest EQ circuits - Tony is close to you and I'm up in Jax and there are a couple of other fEARful owners in here in Florida so no reason not to try before you buy and find out for yourself. PS: Yes the 66 can punch... it'll spit back whatever you feed it.

The cab isn't as deep by 2". Interesting. The idea of building something completely custom intrigues me.

Only the fEARful plans are available. The fEARless/greenboy cabs are from Authorized builders only.

Building your own fEARful is a good route.

You would have to source the drivers, and they are not cheap. The cross over can be purchased as a finished good from Speakerhardware. You also have too look at hardware and finishing options.

I think you could do it for less than what an AB would charge, but its your time in building and sourcing components. When I looked into what it would cost me to build my own, I realized it would be somewhere around $1400-1700, plus my time. I had Dave Homer of Gigmaster Soundworks build for me.

Just to show you what the cost of doing it yourself, as oppossed to having an authorised builder do it, I got a ballpark quote from an AB for a fEARLess 210 at $1400 ! That's for a 210 ! As I said before, it aint cheap, and quite an expense if you wind up not liking it. You can always resell, otoh, and the classifieds here on TB are great for that.

Right it isnt cheap, but the thing you have to remember is the 10" drivers in the 210 cost the same as the 15" drivers in the 1515/66 and the F215.

Maybe the cost of building a 1515/66 can be extrapolated from what it cost me to build a pair of 12/6s.

I had about $350 in material costs per cab, but the price of the woofers has gone up since then.
So lets say $450/cab at today's prices.

The 15 inch drivers cost about $5 less than the 12s, so that's a wash.
The mid drivers for a 1515/66 will add another $100/driver over the mids for my 12'6s.
Add in the cost of the additional crossover components and plywood, and I'd say a conservative estimate would be around $1000-1100 if you're careful with the hardware and finishing expenses. (I used spray paint instead of Duratex and used individual round grills instead of having a full metal grill custom made.)

I get $954.49 delivered with the Deep Dish handles and the large jack plate with speakons and no horn, so all-in you maybe could do the cab with grill and finish for a bit over $1k? That's a lot of cab for $1k.

I'd call Leland and get his advice before ordering.

Yeah, I see that, but you can always find deals on Ebay. For example, I see a new 3012LF for $209, and a new 3015LF for $239 or BO. The 3012LF is usually $10 cheaper than the 3015LF. Why the 3010LF is the same as the 15, I could'nt tell you. BTW, there is also a 3010HO out , too.

I lucked out and got my 1515/66/1 from a fellow TBer for $150... but it needs 2 3015s and 1 of the 6s... So I'll have spent around $900 total for it. Definitely NOT bad at all. You could probably build your own, new, for around $1400.

Usually the 3012LF is more expensive than the 15" variant due to demand. The reason they are all priced similarly is that they use the same motor from what I understand. It probably doesnt cost Eminence much more to produce the rest of the speaker.

Are the smaller drivers expensive? sure, but you get a ton in a small package, and you pay for that premium.

I was the first 66 flatpack Leland built. So you are welcome. I am hoping to meet up with him at some point this weekend. Good guy.

Yeah, man---build it yourself!

With Leland's flatpacks and some Pl adhesive it's not hard. If you can get the use of a air-powered brad nailer--even easier.

Duratex is very easy to apply for the beginner---do it!

I'm an authorized builder--I think that the fearless cabs are a bit better but the 15/15 6/6 would work great for you!

Not to make fun of tribute band visual requirements, but you could always mock up a lightweight box to go on top of your funtional smaller cab. Don't forget to put a pair of rolled up socks where they belong too, if needed.:)
Mike Arnopol can build a big lightweight functional 2x15 though.
