lighter bass

hey guys ive got a music man sub,
im not complaining, ino bass's arent made to be light,
just curious to see if theres anything lighter

The lightest basses I have ever played have been Spectors and swamp ash bodied Warwicks.

Lightest bass I ever played was a Zon Sonus. Beautiful bass and super easy on the back.

It doesn't get much lighter than a Rob Allen Mouse 30 @5.5lbs. A lot of handmade basses can made to be very light when lighter woods are used or chambered construction. A lot of stock basses can vary by weight due to density ranges of the lumber.

how would a fender standard jazz bass compare?

I know that instruments that are made of Ash/Swamp Ash and Basswood are generally lighter but depends on body's mass, neck material and hardware being used. I had a late eighties Stingray and it was one of my heavier basses. Those old aluminum neck thru Kramer basses are probably one of the heaviest I've played, and yes I agree with previous; that lucite bodied D Armstrong is no joke either.

The Ibanez hollow bodies are lighter. The Rogue VB-100 Beatle Bass is lighter and has a great Hofner sound with the right strings. The Jay Turser JTB-401 clone of a '54 P bass is very light at only 6.5 pounds...and sounds great.

Balance is another issue, and so is what you want out of a bass.

To your SUB, about the same, maybe a few oz lighter.

To others listed already, somewhat to much heaver.

Hofner makes a very light bass.
