Lightest bass for a small girl?

I can think of a few basses within your price range if you buy used:
Ibanez SR300
Squier MB4 (I have the MB5 - a five string and the thing is light and neck is narrow)
Tobias Toby (weighs 7 lbs )
Cort Curbow (the older luthite body bass not the wood)

I have both a 'Beatle Bass, and a Hofner Club bass which has a hollow body, single cutaway like a Les Paul, and love them both. Short scale, and light weight. The Hofner Ignition Series is 4 to 5 hundred dollars.
I also have a fairly new Rogue Beatle Bass from Musicians Friend, that was only about $200, and it compares very favorably with the Hofner Ignition Series.

Everyone has proffered great suggestions: the danelectro, or other short scale bass, and I think semi-hollow or hollow-body is the way to go there. The Ibanez Artcore basses are good and not too expensive.
But the suggestion on the Kala UBass is by far going to be the lightest, easiest playing bass you can get. If you plan on playing loud rock, they make a solid-body version that would resist feedback.

Spector Performer, and Legend Classic basses have a small basswood body, play well, are cheap used, (the performer can be found cheap new sometimes), they are very light, and I think they sound good.
One thing you might want to try... a really good leather padded strap could make a lot of difference on your neck and shoulder, (like a Levy's),,, they cost a lot (45 to 60 dollars), My left shoulder is in bad shape from a bike wreck, it hurts often, I play a couple of heavy Fenders, without my Levy's strap it hurts bad in the first 30 minutes, with it,, it's just a little sore after a few hours, for me it made a lot of difference, see if you can try a good padded strap, mine is the 2 1/2 inch model,, with the padding it actually measures 3 1/4 wide, probably not too wide for you.

Does anyone know what the OP ended up with? There were lots of good suggestions and the last post I see from her is on page 4.
I did not read through all the comments, but i would spin it a bit to advise finding the heaviest bass you can tolerate. Light basses sound "light" IMO. That said, my daughter plays an SX medium scale Jazz bass with no problem. She's 11
