Mitey Mite Pbass alder body + Allparts jazz maple/maple neck + SD pup + Fender bridge, tuners, PG and pots = a hair under 8lbs. Works for me. Oh, and best of all, about $400 plus a few hours of your own sweat equity labor.

If not, and it isn't too weird, Bongos being basswood are pretty light and seem to encourage body friendly playing position

i don't like heavy basses that much. i have a jazz bass copy that weighs 9 lbs,and it is the heaviest bass i own. my others are danelectro hodad 5 lbs,yamaha rbx250f 6.6 lbs,rickenbacker 4004 cii 7 lbs,rickenbacker 4000 7.5 lbs. price and versatility wise,the ricks were the only relatively expensive basses,but they are the ones i play the most. the other basses were all less than 200 bucks before pickup upgrades.

A Mike Kinal fretless 5 I just got used. 6.9 lbs and it's balanced. Balance is really key here....the leverage a neck diving bass exerts will very quickly negate the benefits of a light body.

Not necessarily. I had a Spector Legend that weighed close to 10 lbs. and it was basswood. Depends more on the actual piece of wood rather than the type. Look at how much Korina varies over on Warmoth. I've seen bodies that weighed 4 lbs and others that weighed 6 or more, even when they're exactly the same otherwise.

Precision Lyte is weighing in at 7.5 lbs on the house scale, but that could be heavy. Will advise. Smaller P body, 2 active pickups, J neck.

Played a hollow body Yamaha decades ago that was lighter, but the sound was not exceptional.
