I think I would like to have a picollo bass for the particular musical experiments I am working on.
Now, the question becomes, can I turn my Ibanez BTB into a Piccolo bass?

Yes, i have owned 2 6 string BTBs and have used various tunings with very thin strings on them.

Some might prefer that, but there is absolutely no need for a short scale, just choose suitable gauges for your desired tuning and tensions. A longer scale results in a clearer, brighter tone.

Very probably not, this is a common misunderstanding. The downforce firmly centres the string at the base of the curved nut slot floor. As long as there is downforce and the nut slot floor is curved as it should be, usually no problem.
I have restrung many of my bass guitars with very thin strings (down to .007) and have never had a problem.

Highest practical pitch on a 35" scale is around C#4 or D4, using a plain steel .008 or .009.
