Hi,

This is my first post on TalkBass
and I feel embarrassed that
my first post here is a question... :hiding:

Anyway, I have a Warwick Bass
that suffers a little but of neck dive (just a little bit).

I heard that changing the tuner might help a little bit,
so I'd like to know if Gotoh RES-O-LITE series tuners
or Hipshot Ultralite tuners are lighter in comparison.


Which Hipshot Ultralite will fit my Warwick?

1.) HB6Y - 3/8'' Y Key Ultralite

Warwick tuners are gorgeous. Also, most basses will have a little bit of neck dive. Usually, the closer the upper horn is to the 12th fret, usually the better. Of course, the Thumb is going to be a bit different to the Corvette. I've heard the Hipshots are really great if you HAVE to switch the Warwicks out though. I'll take your Warwicks if you don't like them. ;]

I love my Warwick.
I'd like to figure a way to make the bass less "horizontal" while standing up though =)

I just think that it would be well nice
if I can get the angle between sitting down and standing up as close as possible.

You could try a strap with a suede or rough back to it so it provides a bit of friction over your shoulder.

I played guitar for a while. One in particular that I have had pretty bad neck dive but a leather strap with a rough suede back cured it.

Just got a reply from a Gotoh dealer.
It appears that GB350 is really light:

Weights of the Gotoh tuners:

GB350 : 40.0g
GB720 : 64.4g
GB720W : 64.4g
GB720B : 64.4g
GB707 : 68.5g
----------------------------

I wonder if Hipshot ultralite is lighter than 40g.

Best thing about Hipshot is that if you ever botch an install or adjustment (...and I have), you can get replacement parts directly from the company with a simple phone call or e-mail. Come to think of it, I've never paid for a single part or postage. You'll see the Hipshot name appear frequently when addressing superior customer service here on TB.

Right now I'm in Canada,
But I'm leaving in a month to Taiwan,
then Hong Kong, then back to Canada.

I think I will go for Gotoh, since I'll be in Asia for a while.
Besides, not trying to be fuzzy thinker,
Gotoh GB350 (40g) is lighter than Hipshot Ultralite (44g).
It seems that I can get a more promising result from choosing Gotoh.

Also...
Gotoh GB350 x5 = 200g
Hipshot Ultralite x5 = 220g

Difference in weight is 20g, which is half of a Gotoh GB350 tuner.

So... yea :x

Both are excellent choices and availability is certainly a factor as is price. Post some pics upon mod completion.
