Lightnin’ Rods for P-Bass .. Advice?

Anybody have any experience with these Lightnin Rods
I've got a stock Squier VM Precision. I'm not really digging the tone of the duncan design anymore. Looking to replace the pickup with something smoother and more mellow.
I'm open to suggestions to. I'm trying to stay under 100-120 dollars.
I'm also looking at the EMG PAX, but I'm thinking EMG is going to be the opposite of the tone I want, regardless of what the description says.

I guess nobody uses these. I'll go ahead and get them and write a review for people in case anybody else needs info.
