i'm not sure i understand your question.

but, www.lightwave-systems.com is still making the optical pickups.

there is considerable routing. i like to think of my zon as "chambered"



they sound...well, different. some like. some hate.

i like it to drive my V-Bass and blend in some of the Lightwave.

sounds great to me.

Do you mean combining the lightwave pickup system with a magnet ("normal") pickup? I believe Devon made a bass with that setup. I think it had a MM pickup.

Personally, I think I'd rather have just the lightwave, as you'd lose some benefits of the lightwave system by adding magnetic pickups. But, that's just my opinion...it certainly would be able to get a huge range of tones!

As already noted, the system usually comes with considerable routing. Every one I've seen looks like that.

If anyone's interested I'm selling a cheap four string fretted Lightwave with a soft tweed case (Just bought a Spector). It's in the classifieds. My buyer seems to have evaporated.

The makers of the light wave pickup are pretty clear on their website that they will not let luthiers use their pickups with magnetic pickups.

That being said, Id love to find a really *cheap* used lighwave that I could drop some mags into.

Lightwave via TBC debut'd (SP?) a HYBRID at NAMM 2004.

so, now mags are available with the Lightwave pickup system.

LW sys just hasn't updated their site yet.

Yeah, Im talking about a bass I wouldnt feel wrong about routing out a big fat hole for a MM pickup.

Id cry if i saw one of those torn up.

I bought a Lightwave nearly a year ago. I had such a hard time accepting the sound of the thing that I contacted Keith (designer of optic system) and inquired about throwing a magnetic pup in. His response was essentially:

Yeh, we've done a few of those. You have you're luthier route the bass and install the pup then send it to us and we run the wiring. I don't recommend tying the systems together. Even just installing a mag pup will exert pull on the strings which is one of the things the optic system was designed to overcome.

If the mag is going to be a seperate system, to me, theirs not much point. The blend of the two strikes me as more appealing.

But I've have seen Lightwaves with a mag pup, don't know if they were tied together or not.
