Lightweight 5-string Jazz

I've settled on what type of bass I want. A 5 string Jazz.

What I'm looking for is something inexpensive, lightweight, and sounds like a Fender Jazz (doesn't have to look like one).

I don't have a specific weight I'm looking for. Under 9 pounds if possible.

My budget is $0. I'm going to have to save for it.

Any suggestions?

Not that picky about neck width or string spacing, I've gotten used to both Ibanez and Fender.

I don't know, but I've been told (again and again) that these SX bass guitars from Rondo are quite good.

You need to be more specific.. as in how much are you looking to spend... Invalid Link Removedis a good option.. I don't know how heavy the Squires are but the are decent basses as well.

I've played Squiers and SXs and they're both heavier than I want. As for max price I'd say under $1500.

I don't recall the Saratoga sounding quite like a jazz, may have to listen to one again.

Are you saying that I'm contradicting myself because I want something under 9lbs and no more than $1500? Or that I'm contradicting myself by saying that I want something inexpensive and my max price is $1500?

If the former, I know it can be done. I know of at least one option, an Ibanez SR1205E or 1405E.

If the latter, everyone has a different opinion of what "inexpensive" means. I'm honestly looking for something in the <$800 range if I can find it, but am willing to save up to around $1500 if I have to to get what I want. Does that make more sense?

The other option I considered is getting an Ibanez SR605 and slapping some Nordstrand Big Singles in there.

Take a look at Lakland Skylines. The Darryll Jones models can be pretty light. There's one up for trade right now that the guy says is 9lbs.

+1. I believe they also offer a chambered option, and you can ask them to try and pick you a light piece of whatever wood you select.

Build one yourself! Warmoth chambered body, graphite bar neck, hipshot ultralites and Lindy Fralin pickups. It doesn't get any better than this!

Fender mb5 if you can find it. They're super light , sound great and go used (discontinued model) for 3-400usd. Can you tell I like mine?

My Lakland DJ5 (Skyline) is around 9lbs, bought it used for << 1000$, and has an excellent setup and neck shape. The PUs have a great sound,
and it is the standard passive JB configuration.

Go for the mayones jabba 5. Or simply just make one from warmoth. You can request for a lighter body.
