I recently went to a jam session and this guy came in with a GK combo with a 12" speaker. It was so small I had to look twice. But boy did it put out a nice full sound. I'm sorry for your misfortune but I'm glad you're alive. I'm glad you still play too.
Here's a new one at MF that is even more compact. This GK is due out in a couple weeks:

Now if you want a more boutique amp, I would consider the Ibanez Promethean 110. It pumps out 250 with it's internal speaker, and if you add another cab it goes to 500 watts. This little firecracker is only $699 and if you catch the sales rep at GC I'll bet you could get one for less. Here's the link to the Ibanez Promethean 110:

Not sure what you mean by "This new GK is due out in a couple of weeks",,,, this GK MB112 has been out in the wild for a very long tme now,, I bought mine almost a year ago and it was available for sale long before I bought mine.

As for the GK MB112, it is a killer little combo,, I have been half tempted to use it on a small gig,,, its that good.
With PA support there's no question this little GK MB112 would be just fine.

As someone posted earlier, the head is the easy part.

As far as an affordable cab, you might want to keep an eye out for the old Berg HT112 cabs. I had one and it was really light but puts out amazingly. If needed, you could get two. That would be much lighter than a 212.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and good wishes. I am still looking most seriously at the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and the GK Neo 1X12. It seems to be the best combination for both smaller and larger gigs, which can be miked. I am hoping to get both from my local music store if they can come up with a good price for me. A second cab may be in the future as well.

Jump on that .. you won't be sorry. Those heads are fantastic .. and even though the model is discontinued GB will still support it if bought new. I'm telling you .. the heads are great.

I can dig it.. get the cab from the local store.. unless they are selling 6.0s at that price, it's hard to beat. The GK cab looks decent enough spec wise.. it's less expensive than the GB equivalents. I have owned a 6.0. a 9.0 and a SL900 and I have had no problems with any of them.For me they meet all my needs and tone wise they are pretty versatile

So sorry for your misfortune and I understand about not wanting to impose on your bandmates, I'm the same way.

That said...the GK Neo 112 may fit the bill with a GK MB500, Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0, or maybe a 9.0 (which you should get for arount $450-500. You could also down the road pick up another GK 112 when you can spring the $$ for the bigger gigs.

Similar situation - my wrecked/unstable/frequently dislocating shoulder required me to get rid of my Redhead last summer too. I replaced it with a GB Shuttle 6.0 for the head, which I love. For a cabinet, I initially went with a GK Neo210, which I believe is about 40 lbs. It was OK, but the handles on it were in awkward places and in the end it didn't go lightweight enough for me. I've since moved to a Traynor TC112, which is 25 lbs, and I love it. I'm amazed by how well it handles the low B, and it seems light as a feather - easily a one handed carry. It handles practices and jams just fine so far, and if it ends up not handling gigs I figure I can easily pick up a second one.

I looked at the GKNeo112 as well, and I think while it is roughly the same weight, the cabinet is slightly bigger. After the experience of the awkwardness of carrying the Neo210, I wanted to make the cabinet as portable as possible. That, and I liked the sound of the Traynor cabinets better than the GK cabinets, so it was a no brainer for me.

Good luck with redoing your rig. In the end it was fun for me, but it was hard at first, after 20+ years of playing with the same equipment/manufacturer (SWR). That, plus admitting that my body was letting me down when it came to carrying around heavy gear.

Some like the low frequency rolloff of the 9 better than the 6. The 6 could break the 1x12 too; they both have gain controls and your good ears to prevent that. :D

Both heads get plenty of good reviews hereabouts, GB has a great reputation for customer service, enjoy your new equipment.

I am just trying to resist spending the $$$s especially since I have regretted not picking up one of GB's Neo-Paks when they dropped below $300...

Or maybe even the Carvin MB1015 stack on the same page just below that cab. That actually looks pretty nice.. the 110 is 26 lbs and if you need more the 115 cab is 30lbs.
