Original TV series only; all I can say is Lily seemed to be a more grounded “mom” type who could put up with a dumbass for a husband, while Morticia seemed a lot more edgy, potentially kinky, and always up for Gomez’s escapades.

Agreed.
My wife can switch back and forth between them ridiculously quickly as needed....probably because her husband can quickly toggle between DA and "escapades".
I’m a young whippersnapper and had to do some google image searches. Lily all day long.
I guess, on the basis that my ex pretty much was Lily, down to the bride of Frankenstein hair do, and collection of taxidermy - that's my answer.

The relationship between Gomez and Morticia always struck me as pretty sex-charged, even in the innocent TV censorship of the 1960s (no toilets in bathrooms, no husband and wise sleeping in the same room, no navels showing).
