Is there any difference between the Fender American Standard Limited Edition PJ bass and a standard american precision bass other than the neck and the extra pickup? I want to buy a precision bass and I don't really need the j pickup, but the PJ is cheaper than the standard precision(the pj is about $150 cheaper). I don't have any preference between the precision and jazz necks, so that doesn't matter for me, so I was wondering if I might as well get the pj since it's cheaper even tho I dont need the j pickup atm or if there's reasons for it being cheaper?

So there's really no other difference than the neck and extra pickup?

Probably. It appears to be a sunburst, MIA Precision that's had a little extra routing, then matched up with an MIA Standard neck instead. I can see how it'd be attractive to some, especially people like me who prefer a Jazz neck and P/J configuration. But at that price, I'd rather get an Aerodyne, or even a Reggie Hamilton-sig, and save some bucks. Even if I were to do some mild enhancements/upgrades, I'd still end up with leftover money in my pocket.

In the US the PJ is more expensive than the standard model - so don't think that it's a lesser quality bass because it's cheaper in Europe. It's priced lower than the standard here in the UK too, I've been tempted to get one myself as I really want a P with a J neck (just wish it had a tort guard and no bridge pickup!).

I went with the "PJ" Precision. It plays great! I like Am. Std. basses anyway.
