Hey JMJ,

Saw your promotional vide of the above mentioned unit on line 6.com. I'm thinkin about buying one, i've read the reviews on this, i've checked out line 6.com etc. i feel it'd be handy for what i'm doing, playing live a lot in a covers band, but i've yet to try one out. Personally i don't think i'd be able to learn too much about it and make a proper assessment on it trying it out in a shop for half an hour, without my bass or my amp!!

The question here is not too clear, but i suppose what i'm asking is do YOU think i'd be able to determine if it was for me or not, by trying it out in a shop?

Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

If you get away from the presets and make your own, that thing sounds awesome to me. So hard to answer your question. For me, it's come in really handy. Some albums I do (Garbage, Macy Gray) are mostly ALL that unit, blended with a clean DI.

JMJ--your "Subdub" setting in that unit is one of the only sounds I use from mine(as I'm not too much of an effects guy as a rule). What a great patch!
The Brassmaster model in that thing is surprisingly good too.

With the X3 just being released, how long is it going to be before the "next hardware update" is available?

AFAIK (please correct me if I'm wrong), the X3 simply took all the XT modeling (guitar, bass, and vocals) and squeezed it into one unit, so it's not a true hardware update since the POD didn't get better, it just got more compact.

Good question! I'd like to know, too. They haven't kept me informed. The last product of theirs I actually helped with was the little Low Down amp with the single 10" speaker, which I think is the ultimate tiny amp...I have it backstage on the Beck tour, and even did a gig with it once! So I'm a little out of the loop as far as what they've got cooking next, but I know that software (such as Guitar Rig 3) is getting SO good (I use that at my home studio to record bass sometimes with great results) that they need to make sure they can stay in the game with their hardware units. I'm sure they will; they practically invented the whole scene.

No idea, I just turn knobs. I work off the Sub Dub model, or B-15 or SVT or the Magnatone (Detroit) amp. Sorry...nothing particular, I just grab knobs and turn...if I can't get a good sound out of it in a particular track with a particular bass in 30 seconds, I move on to something else.

(search function is not friendly with the short words Sub Dub)

Line 6 says that the Sub Dub is based on your gear.
What gear in particular? (amp, cabs, signal processors,... ??)

Or do you not wich to tell because that takes the magic about this setting away? :)

Anyways, I love the Sub Dub.
You are the inspiration for that, so: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,... (to infinity).

I recently bought the POD X3 Pro and I love the "two rigs" feature.

I mostly run my main sound in Tone 1, trebly more sharp tone (sorta like Steve Harris meets Justin Chancellor).
And in Tone 2 as an awesome backup the Sub Dub (with often octave down and reverb effects).
Working this way is so cool. :)

Sub Dub is based on a rack of stuff, some of which I still have, some not. It is:

Joemeek VC1Q, Ampeg SVP-Pro, API 550A EQ, and one other thing, I forgot actually. Some of the Line 6 engineers have it fully doc'd and photographed.

Glad you like that model. I like it too, especially blended with other stuff. I have to try the way you have it run, that's cool - I had that in mind when I got my latest POD, just haven't gotten around to programming stuff like that yet.

Thank you for sharing that.

I'm still figuring out how to make patches myself and how I should order them.
I was a single pedal user... not much effects. But I am learning to use presets for the music I play.
I was also in the market for a new amp, now went with the POD X3 as preamp, the two tones into a stereo poweramp, one channel with my primary tone into two 4x10 cabs and one channel with a secondary tone into one 4x10 cab.
Lots of possibilities this way.

The Sub Dub is with no doubt the best feature on the POD.
In the effects forum it's brought up a lot.
If Line 6 just made a ToneCore stompbox pedal of the Sub Dub, it will be a major rave among the effect using bassists, even the bassists who swear by running bass-cable-amp will think twice about pedals.

Or at least Line 6 should have included the Sub Dub in the LowDown amps.

All in a perfect world. :)

How well does the USB/ direct recording feature of the bass pod work compared with others you've probably tried/use? Is it compatible with different recording software, and could you use it for other instruments for direct recording as well?

On the side...I was on the floor for NIN in Calgary this past July, and that was the best NIN show I've seen before or since. Absolutley fantastic, that was a great show.

I've never used the USB stuff, sorry...no experience. But it's great just using the XLR out. Sure you could use it for other stuff, there are no limits. But the amps will not suit guitars as well, that's for sure. Could be interesting, tho.

I own the Line6 Bass Pod and I love it. This actually my second one and I use it both in the studio and live exclusively. I have run it using power amps with either my Eden, Peavey, SWR, or Acme cabinets and it always gives me great sound. I have set up different sound sections for each of my different basses which range from 4 to 6 strings. I use my laptop to really get into the guts of it and tweak it just the way I need it. When people hear mine they usually say, "I played that in the store but it didn't sound like that!" It's something you have to spend a little time with and some knowledge of sound will go a long way.

I wanted to bump this as I'm seriously considering getting either the Bass Pod Pro XT and M13 or the X3 and a Line 6 M13.

I have to cover a lot of sounds these days, my main rig is massive and not really grab and go but at the same time I'm doing a lot of gigs with borrowed backline and I could quite happy just go IEM with say an X3 and M13 and wander in with 2 bags and get more tones and control over my sound than I've ever had before.

I also have an all tube power amp and was thinking that this would help cover up any of the digital sounding tones ;)

I'm wondering if there is any difference in the quality of the models in the x3 and Bass Pod XT
