Line 6 HX Stomp

If I'm understanding this correctly the only way to do that, that I'm aware of, would be to set the footswitch to toggle up or down (but not both, maybe with a long press you could get it to do preset up and a regular press to do preset down, but this is going to be controller specific and maybe only possible via midi).

If you are toggling between presets theres going to be a lag in audio as the Stomp is loading all of those blocks, etc.

I just found the solution!

While I'm in "preset 1" load up command center and tell FS4 to load "preset 2", save the preset.

Then, when in "preset 2" load up command center and tell FS4 to load "preset 1", save the preset.

Now, whenever I hit FS4 it toggles between my two presets!

Slightly OT, but if all I’m looking to do is run the Stomp, DG AO Photon (9v 500mA), and maybe one normal pedal (9v ~100mA) on a Nano or Nano+, is there any reason I couldn’t/shouldn’t use the CIOKS SOL, or maybe a 1Spot Pro? With the appropriate current doublers of course.

A CIOKS SOL would probably do it. I just decided to go the extra mile and know for sure. I had a DC7 a while back and should have kept it. I will keep this one - even if it's "overkill" as I learned my lesson.

There are lots of people running Stomps off of Truetone CS6 supplies, and you can supposedly pull more than the labeled max per outlet on those (as long as you don’t exceed the max current for the supply). I’ve only read of one comment from a TB’er (maybe in this thread) that running a Stomp from a single CS6 outlet eventually stopped working (I believe pedal and supply are both fine, just stopped powering on from a single output). I have a couple CS6 supplies for smaller boards, but use my Cioks DC7 for the Stomp so haven’t tried it myself yet from a CS6 (you would need an adaptor for the different tip size, but NOT the old reverse polarity L6 adaptor!)

That might have been me. The Stomp is fine, but the supply is busted.

It may very well have been my fault though; I was actually trying to draw about 1800mA from the CS6, and it's only rated for 1600mA total.

Currently powering my Stomp (8-900 mA), Photon (500mA), Boss Wireless (320mA) and a couple of lower draw utility pedals from a Fender Lvl5 and it works great.

Ok, so synth presets: what are you guys using?

I’ve been messing around with some synthy stuff for a few pop tunes my band is covering.

I’m pretty happy with what I came up with.

I got the Deluxe comp, boctaver, tron down, mistery filter, dark dove fuzz, retro reel, pebble phaser, and dynamic plate in the chain.

Everything on is pretty wild and in your face, take the Dark dove fuzz out for less aggression (but have your retro reel pumped up on the saturation for some light OD) I have the Boctaver set pretty mild only with octave 1 on a little bit and the dry signal all the way up. Most of the others are still at factory settings. Pebble phaser can be on or off depending on if you want that kind of vibe.

Still a work in progress but I'm curious what everyone else is doing.

I use a CS6 without issue, off one outlet.

+1 to @bassvirtuoso and @sunbeast

@gscroggin the HX Stomp pulls ~800-900 mA. So with the DG AO and another pedal, you'd still be within the limitations of the CS6 (1600 mA max). There's no need to shell out big bucks for a Cioks or the like, unless you really want to. I've been rocking an HXS powered by one output off my CS6 for years without any hiccups.

Has anyone been able to test the Svt patch of Alex Strabala?
Bass - HX Stomp SVT 4.0 — Alex Strabala

The description makes me wonder a bit:
What we have now in version 4.0 with the parallel SVT amp models is dramatically better than what is possible with a single Noble and pedals...
I bought his 3.0 but wasn’t impressed enough to use it or buy into the newer versions.

Maybe not really bass related but anyone have tips on getting the Kurt Rosenwinkel HOG2 sound out of the Stomp/Helix? Kurt uses the Attack control to, basically, chop off the pick attack of each note. I think a few other EHX pedals have used the same implementation, namely the Attack Decay. The Slow Gear models do not do this sound because they don't reactivate quickly enough. I've heard people manage to pull it off with an Axe-FX using the ADSR but I don't think the Helix has anything similar to that unless I've missed it.

Would playing around with the Split Dynamic give you what you're looking for?

I'm not totally sure about the effect you are looking for (can you post a video?), but the swell effect in the Legacy "Auto-Volume Echo" is a simple one that works pretty consistently for me- it is a simple auto-swell into a delay line great for ambient swells but also works as a straight swell if you remove the delay and seems to track nearly as fast as I can play (has a much shorter min attack time set by the "Swell" knob than the AutoSwell effect). I used to use it in my old M9 for ambient Rhodes piano stuff and have used it in the Stomp as well. For your uses you just need to set the Mix to 0 to take out the delay line and set the Swell to taste (even all the way down might be enough for just chopping off the top of the note)

It’s “his” sound and you can find it on pretty much any recording :D

Interesting- if I had heard that without the EHX HOG reference I'd have guessed it was a compression effect squashing the attack then swelling back up (like some OTA and optical comps can do). Pretty cool effect for what he's doing for sure, Nels Cline does more dramatic versions of that and may also use an EHX of some sort for it. I think the Auto-Volume Echo trick I mentioned above might work, certainly better than anything else I've found in the Helix for this sort of thing though perhaps not quite as smooth (I just read something suggesting he has used compression after his HOG to make the swell less dramatic so something like that could help too)

Hope this isn't rehashing too much, but curious what amps people are running their Stomps into nowadays? Input or effects return?

I've been using the effects return of the MicroVR into two 210AVs which is nice, but the head is old and starting to give me some issues and I'm looking for something even smaller. I'd be amenable to going into the preamp section, but it would be nice to have a return option which some smaller heads don't. I'm eyeing some of the Genzler stuff but curious what people are digging!

Thank you! This is pretty close, I'm going to mess around with it more but this is working much better than the AutoSwell

My amp is an Ashdown Klystron 500 stack, but I have a Darkglass Photon after my Stomp. The Photon is also my DI for FoH, so my Klystron is basically just for some stage volume and for the people in the front row. I plug straight into the front of the amp.

I usually end up not bringing my amp to gigs these days. The venue backline amp is usually plenty good enough for stage volume. 9 times out of 10 it'll be an SVT and and 810 in most venues around here.
