Line 6 Pod Express vs. Stomp

I have downsized and downsized my board to the point where I now use just an HX Stomp and tuner. I have a battery and Cioks 4 in the pedalboard so I can use it as a headphone amp around the house.

Has anyone compared the Pod Express sound quality to the Stomp? Is it just a pared down set of effects and IRs with the most of the same control parameters? I just don’t know that I use all the capabilities of the Stomp to the extent that I can justify all the extra bulk of the pedalboard.

Another option would be to ditch the tuner, pedalboard and power supply, and just use the Stomp's tuner and OEM wall wart. Maybe not optimal, but if you're trying to downsize as much as possible...

I have never used a stomp, but I do have a pod express, and I like it very much, with the exception of the tuner and compressors. I have a small board with a boss TU-3-->TC Spectra Comp-->Pod Express-->my computer and I'm quite happy with the setup

Duck tape the battery pack to a side of Stomp? No need for pedal board.

I would have to tape both the battery pack and Cioks. No USB power on the stomp.

Now I got the point why you need Cioks. Then taping is not the option.

Stomp sold. Express is 'good enough'. I added my tuner and Empress compressor back to the board and kept my stomp foot switch. I don't know how much I'll use the board vs. the single pedal. Bass pedal boards are kind of a money pit.

The only pedal I own that takes USB power is my tuner. Even the USB C Pod Express requires a wall wart. I guess pedal manufacture don't want to pay the extra 50 cents or whatever it costs to make a pedal portable. It's hard enough to find pedals that still take batteries. I had a rough day, sorry for the rant.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who views "runs on batteries" as an attractive feature

FYI, the new Zoom MS-60B+ is a battery-powered multiFX similar to the Line 6 Bass Pod. It's somewhat more fully-featured, but requiring a bit more menu diving to set up. I tend to favour the Zoom because it offers a Pitch Shifter, and I don't trust myself to transpose basslines on the fly when our vocalist suddenly wants us to play in a different key.

Zoom B1 Four is an older but still decent battery-powered option that you can pick up for less than $100 these days.

If Line 6 added a Pitch Shifter to the Bass Pod I'd buy one, because knobs > menus when you're outside the studio.

I am looking at a Pod Express for days I don't need all the bells and whistles of my large board. Primarily, I want to know how the compressor is? My last experience with Line 6 was and HD500X. Loved most everything about it, but the compressor selection was lacking.

I don’t love it, it feels like a blunt instrument to me, and I do t find them very musical. I run a TC spectra comp in front, and prefer that to the built-in compressors.

After using the pod express as my practice amp for a few weeks it’s leaving me a little cold. I thought it would be an adequate replacement to the stomp but the amp models just don’t do it for me somehow. I’m back to buying analog pedals, unfortunately.
