Line 6 Wireless - XDS-Plus vs. G50

I'm in the process of buying a G50 to replace my broken and crappy AKG Guitar Bug. It uses the mini-XLR connector still, however the housing of the G50 transmitter is all metal with a mondo metal belt clip, and I've been told the cable is much sturdier since Line 6 bought X2 and improved the product. Since sturdiness seemed to be the biggest issue with X2 products previously, I'm glad to see they've addressed the problem.

The G50 takes AA batteries; I believe two of them.

Gigged with the new G50 Relay for the first time last weekend and no complaints...It went for four and a half hours on two 'no-name' AA batteries that came with it. Awesome range before the signal starts to delay, we're talking 200-300 feet--way more than you need for a small-to-medium venue. Housing and belt clip on the transmitter are now solid metal and HEAVY, careful you don't ding your guitar with it! Still using the mini-XLR plug with it but they say they've improved it and it's sturdier than the last generation...we'll see. Time will tell. All told, I'm very happy with the G50 so far.

G50/G90 Use a Switchcraft TA4F to 1/4" connector. I had the G50 and ran two 4hr gigs with 2 AA Energizer batts. The G50 crapped out on me giving loud white noise at my recent gig and I had to return, and ended up exchanging it for the G90. I had the X2 wireless before and hated killing a 9v batt per gig, now I can go two gigs with just two AA batts. Amazing. Just Amazing.! :hyper:

G90 would be nice, but is not really an option for me, since I use a pedalboard with tuner and BDDI programmable. Therefore I would need to run cable from rack to pedalboard and then back which does not really make much sense. It also costs a considarably more.

Was the problem with your G50 explained? I will buy one in a few weeks and would like to hear more about that issue.

Do you mean cuts out, or do you mean that it does not seem to be in sync with what you are playing? If the latter, it's not the wireless, it's because you are so far from the stage: At 200', it takes 176ms for the sound to reach you - at 300' it takes 264ms.

More food for thought:
Iirc, electrical signals pass through wire at roughly 2/3c.
Radio signals travel at c, but in this case they do have to pass through a stage of digital/analog conversion, which slows them down.
But, if you think about it, there must be a distance at which the wireless unit is actually less latent than the equivalent cable!
