Line 60 Relay G30 problem

Hey guys. I recently got the Line 6 G30 wireless unit. It's amazing. I don't hear a loss in sustain like my old Shure had. It's easy to change channels too. But I get 1-4 second signal losses randomly. Sometimes every 15 minutes, sometimes every 2 minutes, sometimes never. Not a battery problem! I don't think it's an interference problem either, because I'll scan through all 6 channels and still get it. We run 2 wireless vocal mics, and a wireless Sax mic, but like I said I'll go through 6 other channels and still have it happen. Could it be a signal loss in my pedal chain? (Tuner -Noise Suppressor - Sansamp - Big Muff - Wireless). Any thoughts on a better way to set this up? Or could I just have a lemon system and should return it?

Yea, lots of threads on it, but all talking in circles. Basically I have to turn off the receiver and see if the transmitter LEDS go red, and on what channels they go red on. Apparently if they go red that shows interference. But the general outcome of this test is non helpful. The Line6 support guys don't really give any real answers either. So I'm thinking this unit wasn't the best choice. Great reviews for it, but this seems to happen to A LOT of people with this unit. Not too happy about this!

Hence the reason for this post. Maybe some people have had this situation and found a solution. Because I can't find a decent set in stone "Will work for sure" solution on the Line6 forum.
 
The Line 6 wireless systems are designed to drop out rather than "break up" or crackle etc when the signal is too weak to maintain accurate data. It sounds like you have an interference problem of some sort.

The RF LEDs turn red when the interference is from WiFi sources only, i.e. your WiFi system is using one of the available channels. It is however possible for other transmitters located too close to your receiver to cause problems as well. Do you have any kind of IEM's or other transmitting device near your Relay's receiver?

Only 2 wireless vocal mics and a wireless sax mic on occastion. But when my guitar player uses his Shure, it works fine with the other gear. When I use mine, I have to go through different channels sometimes during songs, and it'll cut out with each of the 6 channels. I'd figure one channel would eventually work, right?

We have our WiFi devices such as laptops and phones, but we don't use the WiFi in the buildings we're in. All of these wedding venues need passwords, and we don't need WiFi when we're playing anyway. My unit is usually on the floor of the stage with my other pedals behind my band stand. I'll be literally on top of the thing and it'll cut out. I use the adapter provided with the unit, not the chain from pedal to pedal. I just figured ONE of the channels would come through? Especially when there are 6, and there are only 2-3 other wireless devices being used at a time. Maybe it's because of these wedding venues and temples. I really want this to work because it's the first wireless I've used that doesn't kill tone or sustain!
 
From what I can remember, I believe the 3 LED's went down to zero for the second or 2 that the unit cut out. I'm 99% sure that's what happened. Then they'll shoot back up to 3 and I'll come back in. (I believe it's the top row of 3 LED lights in the Transmitter Status. Not the bottom).
 
If your phone is on-stage and has wifi it will be constantly trying to connect on the same frequencies as the G30 uses. Either turn it off totally or just turn off the wifi if possible. Same goes for your bandmates's phones and any other wifi devices (laptops?) you have.

Well I can't ask a 7-8 piece band to turn off all of their phones. They'll probably laugh me off the stage. As far as laptops go we need them for sheet music, contracts, wedding info, etc. This can't be the only solution. There has to be 1000 other people using this product with cell phones on a stage where there is WiFi in the building. It doesn't seem like a sound product if this is the case. If this is the problem, I'd figure they would have worked out the issue with the product a while ago, and that more people would have the same problem. Smart phones are everywhere. If this IS the case, then I guess I'm out of luck.

Hi Matty. This would indicate that somehow or other you are either jamming the transmitter transmission with some other very significant WiFi (like an access point or apple airport etc), or you have a defective transmitter. If the transmitter is at fault the problem would occur in rehearsal as well as performance so you can check this out for yourself.

Cell phones and laptops should not bother the Relay system unless they are very close and relatively high power. Best practice for live performance would be to turn off the WiFi portion of cell phones and laptops except where needed for the performance. If they are needed for the performance then you need to make sure the transmitters are not co located with any of your receivers. This is true for all types of transmitters and receivers, not just WiFi or the Relay gear.
