Hi guys, I'm looking at building two small line array cabs, utilizing the Galaxy S5N drivers.I know very little about speaker design, but I've seen that LA technology is the way to go. My questions include, can a four speaker design function as a line array( which is good), without just being a small column speaker( which is bad). Can a single, cab, loaded with four drivers, properly arrayed, qualify as LA? I've seen the J angle of driver arrays, does that apply at a much smaller scale?. I'm interested in smaller/lighter, for the tiniest stages, maybe 50 people, thru about 100 people, in an outside environment. A couple of these, and a new technology 15" sub, should do the trick. Thanks for your help.

One characteristic of a line array is that the height of the array is many times the width. You'll need either very small speakers or a very tall cabinet. Either way, you'll need a lot of speakers.

Yes, 2 or more drivers array.
Who says there's anything bad with a column speaker?

It may be hard to build one cheaper than you could buy one

Line array actually means a line of cabinets that use the degree angles between the cabs and the resulting response to throw sound. You can make cabs that work off the same principles of vertical placement of drivers but need multiple cabs to create an array. The term Line Array is a bit over used these days.

The cab designs are great of course, but achieve their best results when multiple units are used. The array format and can lack with fewer boxes (some designs being more successful than others). You might want to also consider cabs designed to stand alone with a short throw, given the description of your needs.

They look real temping for a line array if you also added a line of tweeters.

It'd be interesting the throw the theile-small into win isd and see what comes out.
