Line6 POD Studio UX1

It was too similar to what I already had. I was looking for more channels, not to mention I already use a full version of Ableton Live. So all in all, it came down the fact that I was only interested in how Line 6 was bringing in their amp modeling technology into the digital fold, but when it came down to it, it was pretty redundant to what I already had.

I wound up splurging for a MOTU 8Pre. FWIW.

Just an update: I bought the UX1 and have had nothing but trouble. I've spent 10 hours and haven't been able to get a recording in without a clicking and heartbeat /echo sound and I cannot get it out of Ableton. When I export, the track is a flat line of nothing. I can't see how this product is rated so high. I've tried it on 3 computers, laptop pc, desktop pc, and a Mac....same result on all. :(

All 3 systems are more than adequate, all updates were downloaded, yada, yada, yada. Tech support so far has not helped figure this out either.

Trial and Error: eliminated the clicking noise by moving the slider for latency up to middle or higher. Dumping Ableton. It is incompatible with my Pod Studio UX1 on all 3 computers. Buying Cakewalk Music Creator 5 for simple-home recording so I can send the files to my guitarist for mixing.

I have one. But I only used it with Cakewalk Sonar, I never even bothered installing that Ableton junk. It works fine in Sonar using WinXP as an OS.

Though to be honest, I have other interfaces I own that I prefer. But it does work very well. I really bought it for the Line6 plugins, which are some of the best I've used for post-recording production on Guitar and Bass. It was more then worth the price for the plugs imo. :)

Update #2: I bought the Line-6 Pod Studio UX1 recently and it came with Ableton Live Lite and of course a basic version of Pod Farm.

Spent 15-20 hours fighting with Ableton software and the UX1 interface. Nearly returned the UX1 because I was so disgusted with the entire package.

Turns out that the UX1 and its software is 100% ideal, fine, perfect, etc. The freebie Ableton Live lite recording software that came with it is the nasty culprit that had me at wits end. They're not compatible. At least on all 3 of my computers - yeah we tried 3 and major issues with each. Maybe that's why Ableton is free? It's useless IMO. :spit:

Today, uninstalled Ableton completely. Bought Cakewalk Music Creator 5 today and installed, updated, plugged in Pod Farm, etc....NO problems whatsoever. I can start recording now with my bass guitar. :bassist:
We were done and ready to go within an hours time.

Someone give me a drink so I can calm down. :D

use toneport UX2 [same thing, but 2 channels] for two years now.
both os x and winxp. the single problem i have is w/ drivers. cliclking and hissing appears after i use any quick time application. but that is know problem of QT w/ gF 8800GT cards.

in that price range i could not find any better product targeted for guitars/bass.

Picked up a UX1.... and a MacBook Pro.
Haven't updated to Snow Leopard yet as Line 6 has fallen behind a bit in updating the drivers, but I haven't had a problem yet with UX1 and Mac OSX.
BTW I also picked up a copy of Logic Express 9. It's pretty nice.

wait a minute man, it's very easy to play the blame game with computer software/hardware but a lot of the things you have mentioned already sound just like user error!

for a start, you will ALWAYS get clicks and pops if the latency is set too low (as you found out) , even if you spent $2000 on a soundcard, its just what happens when you try to get the computer to work faster than it has the power to. Computer power varies considerably and as such the manafacturers can't give latency a default value which will be the best setting for all computers! So there was no fault with anything there.

Ableton is compatible with the interface, it comes with the interface! Are you sure you set the correct drivers in ableton?

Also, ableton bouncing down silence when you go to export is nothing to do with the interface, its to do with ableton and your export settings, if you have no audio in ableton or it is muted then you WILL bounce down silence!

Lastly, ableton is not useless. Its a very capable, very well designed program that man users from home enthusiasts to proffessionals use every day!

I know its frustrating (believe me I've been there, and i'm still there every day because I work at a studio with A LOT of gear and new things go wrong every day!) but its also frustrating for software/hardware designers to have people making rash decisions about there products just because they are maybe not sure what they are doing!

So make sure your latency is set right, make sure you have installed the line 6 drivers and make sure you have selected it in ableton. Then start playing about recording stuff and see if you can get a mixdown to work! if it still doesn't work there is a TINY chance your computer is stopping them from playing nicely, though this is very unlikely if it works fine with sonar.

Yeah, I was a bit harsh. :hmm: But, I did the same setup with the other software as I did with Ableton and it worked whereas Ableton did not. Thanks for getting me in check.

Hmm, did you set the driver manually for both? If not it may be that Cakewalk defaulted to the correct driver to run the line 6 interface, so it worked straight out, wheras ableton is using the wrong driver by default and as such will give out nor receive sound through the line 6.

so does sound get into ableton? can you see the meters running and regions appearing as waveform-pictures on the tracks when you record? can you hear sound coming out of ableton at all? if you can but its not bouncing down to an audio file then its just your export settings not quite right.

that said, if you have cakewalk and you are happy then thats probably the easiest way to get on with making music!

I have a Line6 GX port (a step down from a UX1) and the Ableton software just wouldn't work with it, i also too had read that the Ableton software doesn't work with the Line6 stuff...anyway i booted up Audacity and within 30 seconds was recording.
I think the Ableton software that you get with the Line6 stuff is more about marketing than fuctionality, they just throw it it so that it seems like your getting something extra in the package.
