I have an NS Design bass coming, and through the reading Ive done about it, I may need a DI or Preamp to get a good tone from the low output Piezo's. Dont have the cash flow at the moment but I do have a POD xt live for guitar, but updated with the Bass pack as well. Tube pres and compressors and eq are all available, but im not too hip on the instrument piezoelectric output and if the Pod adjust the instrument level to line level or however that works. Experimentation will tell me in a week or so but I was just wondering if anyone on this board has used the POD as an EUB DI or Preamp? Ill be running it into an Acoustic b200 combo, which itself has a very adjustable eq section and notch frequency adjuster with both a passive and an active input, so it may work fine without preamp. Advice or opinions?

Double Bass Line6 Pod xt live with Piezo?

My experience is that guitar oriented fx pedals and such don't work that great for bass... otherwise they woudln't have made the bass pod.
FYI: In my past experince, DB players tend not to play much with effects and most eschew them altogether. Don't be surprised if you don't get any feedback. This is all uncharted territory for EUB players.
Its not effects im after, its a DI or Preamp for an Electric upright with only Piezo's, to boost the signal maybe a little compression.... Im sure there is somebody around here who understands my question, they may not have any experience with the POD I would assume, but hey, its worth a shot.
Does your NS have a 9/18V preamp inside of it? An FX pedal wont be good at impedance matching but should be good as an EQ, multi FX and volume boost.
The times when Ive used an underwood with the GT10B pedal, I used an impedance buffering preamp. Full circle doesnt need one, the NS CR5 plug and plays just fine.
So far I havent liked any compression on my tone at all. A bit of reverb is nice, ironically you need a bit of reverb to be even with an acoustic double bass!

Its the new NS Design NXT ... like the WAV its a passive circuit piezo... the lack of any preamp at all is my concern.
You should check the impedance of the NXT then. If its close to a passive electric bass it should be fine....though if you have a guitar pedal you should check what its input impedance is then.
At worst, the tone will just be lacking a bit of warmth and depth, which you can fix with a homebuilt preamp between the bass and pedal. A member on here, fdeck, has schematics for a simple transistor preamp that will work nicely with any piezo.

I use a Bass Pod to great success with my fishman bp-100 equipped (under the bridge feet) 1/4 size ply. I especially enjoy using the Ampeg b-15 simulator amp model.
I have a NS Wav 4 and a Line 6 Bass XT live. I also use an ART tube MP preamp (bass into line 6 into tube pre into amp).
I've found that the pod adds a great deal of tone. The tube pre solves any impedence problems, makes a great DI and adds "warmth" to the sound. The setup doesn't sound anywhere near as good without the pre.
As for the tones that I use on the Line 6- I mainly use a sound called HUGE 360 (I downloaded it off the Line 6 custom tone site) which is a modeled sound of an Acoustic 360 and it gives a deep dark upright sound that is very authentic.
I also use a Polytone model which I added a bit (not too much- very tempting to over do) of room reverb that works quite nicely when I want some additional "growl".

I'm having trouble understanding how the Tube Pre solves impedance problems when it's in between the POD and the Amp ... no impedance mismatch there, surely ? Did you mean the bass (with piezo, needing impedance matching) goes into the pre then the signal goes to the POD ?
Thanks for the tips, I'll try them out. Some of them are not that far from what I do already ... The Ampeg Combo and the Polytone get used a bit, along with a tiny bit of reverb or 'room' (from CAB/A.I.R. modelling).
Caveat: I'm using a different bass to you guys ... a BSX Allegro.

I've used my Bass Pod XT Live with various double bass pickups with excellent results - I believe the input impedence is appropriate for piezos, i.e. it is 1 megohm. No idea what it is for the guitar version but presumably some searching will reveal all.
