Lining up ports

Hi everyone,
I searched on this but didn't find anything, but my question is: Is there any science behind getting increased low end by stacking bottom vent ported cabs and orienting them so that the bottom vent ports line up vertically? Back in the days when I played Eden cabs, I recall some players doing that with Eden 210XLTs and 210XSTs and saying that they got more low end punch that way. I would think that would be more due to the vertical arrangement of the 10s but...
I have a pair of Genz Focus 15s, bottom vent ported. The other day I tried stacking them on their sides so that the ports lined up vertically on the right. Sounded different, but I can't say better that the regular orientation.
Any thoughts?

Now it has me wondering if it'd get any weirdness if the port was tall enough to reach 1/4 wave at the tuning frequency.

It'd take about a 5 or 6ft. Tall cab to do that, though the port would still be comparitavely shallow in depth.

I've never really looked into it.

Not sure what the 1/4 wave means will33, but my cabs are 24" wide so standing on their sides, they're only 48" - well under 5'.

1/4 wavelength distance makes a cancellation In sound, a notch in response at a particular frrquency. At 50hz (possible box tuning freqiency), that would be about 5.6 feet, but I'm not sure what effect that may have, if any, in a deal like this where the port is divided into sections. Maybe none at all.

In any case, "if it sounds good, it is good" rules the day.
