My dream bass is the one that makes my loins tingle. It's the ones that surprise you that are especially lovable IMHO. If you have one built for aesthetic reasons, I think you have to get lucky on the tone and playability aspects.

That being said:
White P bass with white pearloid pickguard
Darkstar Pickup
Jazz neck
Maple finger board
White pearloid block inlays
Matching head stock
Chrome hardware

It would probably only disappoint me though........

Whats up Faust,

Im having a similar bass being built for me right now, except that the Koa is going to be the top, and the white limba is going to be the body. Also, the neck on mine is going to be a 9-peice flame maple and purple heart, with ebony frett board with flame maple binding. Bee Basses is building it for me. :smug:

Hold on, let me open my "Dream Basses" doc. on my PC and cut 'n paste the info: ;)

Mike Lull Modern 5 five-string
  • Swamp Ash body & Figured Spalted Maple top
  • 35" 24-fret Birdseye Maple fretboard with no dots on the front except for an Abalone "infinity" inlay @ the 12th fret, inlayed Cubic Zirconium in the "top dot" positions to amplifly light in low stage-lighting situations (first done by guitarist Danny Gatton and replicated on his Fender Signature Telecaster), and matching Spalted Maple headstock
  • 1 7/8th width @ the nut, 2 3/4th width @ the 24th fret, 18mm string spacing @ the bridge
  • Aero J-Bass 5 Type 1 Jazz Pickups and Bartolini NTMB 3-band preamp with 400Hz mid-cut and MCT-3MC (250/500/750Hz mid-boost with separate 2KHz to 15KHZ treble boost) mid-boost unit with dual volume controls
  • Black Hipshot hardware including A-Style bridge with all string-through-body, HB6Y Y-key Ultralite tuners, Hipshot Bass Xtender on the B-string, and Dunlop Flush-Mounted Straploks
Basically it's the Mike Lull Modern 5 that I own now with a few "tweaks" to bring it from 97% to 100% - the basic woods, pickups & preamp, and hardware is the same with only my ideal top, inlays, and various small changes. I have the same "concepts" for the other Lulls I'd one day like to own, including a 4XL, fretless 5 (Flame Maple top, Ebony fretboard w/ inlayed lines, Aero J-Bass 5 Type F Jazz Pickups, and Hipshot bridge with piezo saddles), a P/DC 5-string with a pickup setups similar to the American Deluxe Precision Bass' Precision and Dual Coil as a bridge pickups, and a custom "Modern" version of his "T-Bass" (based on the Epiphone Thunderbird Pros) with Hipshot hardware & active electronics)
