Little help please :D

Hey guys my gf gave me a hofner icon a while ago and i got the rotosounds jazz 77 flats in medium scale for it, my issue right now is that on the E string on the 2nd fret when you pluck it it just gives like a THUMP sound and doesn't last, while when i pluck the E string on 1st fret or 3rd+ frets they all sound perfect, now i notice that when i tighten the E string it fixes the problem and the sound sounds like it should but of course it's not tuned right, think i should try and find another single rotosound 77 E string or what?

Rotosound is having a lot of quality problems involving E strings, so it seems. That's one thing to keep in mind. You might try getting them to replace it for free.

Next, maybe you need to adjust intonation if you just replaced the strings. Go to the Hardware setup forum and download the Jerzey Drozd Ultimate Guide to Setups from one of the stickies.

I encourage you to learn how to do you own setups....it will save you lots of money and you will learn to "get it just right for your needs" that way.

I'll defer to the Hofner owners for string recommendations. Rotosound 77's are high tension strings fyi.
