Hey everyone,

Sorry if this has been answered a bunch (I did search!). I'm looking at getting another rig (own a GKm150b and a b15) and I feel like a Markbass head + a 2x10 cab (maybe 102p?) would be exactly what I'm looking for. With that said,

I've been seeing the LMii go for 300 bucks (used), whereas the LMiii is going for around 450-500 used as well. Having only played the LMiii, would I be disappointed if I bought the LMii instead because of the cheaper price? Is there really a huge difference in sound quality? Thanks!

GC sells the LMIII for 599.00 new....with the 100 coupon of purchases over 599 that brings the price to 499 with coupon (new). With an added 15% discount I was able to get my LM3 for under 475.00 new in box shipped to my door!! Thats not to shabby of a deal!

There's been some discussion about the limiter thing here on TB, and I think the general consensus is that while they talked about it and it ended up in print a few times, no real change was made?

You could get a brand new LMIII this weekend at Musiciansfriend.com for $510 with the 15% off sale. If Markbass is listed as being excluded, just call, and I bet you will still get the discount. That's if you want one that's brand spanking new, and all yours.

btw, I think it's worth it to have the pre/post switch. And the DI level control. But, both amps sound the same.

Post/pre EQ switch and DI output control has come in handy many times for me.

Hmmm... Don't know..!? I only have the info from the video I liked to, and it's an official MarkBass video...

I have seen the schematic for the II and it has a hard limiter, I have searched, but not found, a schematic for the III, but have never found one. I have never heard the limiter kick in on my III, if that is because I don't play loud enough ;) or if the amp actually has a more sofisticated limiter - don't know...

I have a LMII, and have indeed heard the limiter, but I don't tend to play quietly, and I use very transparent cabinets.

I use my LMII atop of my 102P which sits atop my 151P for small / medium sized gigs. I can fit it all, along with my MONO dual bass bag in the back of my Subaru Imprezza with room to spare. Great little setup. Everyone compliments the sound.
I have a bunch of other rigs, a SVT-VR atop a Ampeg 610,
A Trace Elliot V8 that sits atop a Bergantino NV610, An SVT4 PRO sitting atop Eden XLT2X10 and XLT4X10, a Mesa 400+ Macca setup with (2) Mesa Road ready cabs, the 1516B and 2X15, as well as an old school monster rock rig, a Peavey Mark IV 400BH head, atop a Peavey 500BH 400W powered twin ten cabinet, atop a Peavey 3620 eclosure. (That's twin tens and twin 18's.) 4X10's with twin 18's moves alot of air. All in all, the sound I get with the Mark bass stuff is awesome and super easy to move. ( I use a telescoping collapsable with foldable wheels Hand cart )

I could use a little guidance on this... I think my older model CMD 121 P (with the "combo head" which I believe is a LMII) is set to post and I want to switch it to pre.

If I remove the screws on the back of the head I will find the switch inside?

Can anybody confirm this and maybe give me any advice I might need?

There is no switch. There is a jumper that needs to be moved.

The Differences:

LMIII:

better DI (Level, pre, post, ground lift, no promlems with cheap mixers anymore)

2 band limiter which compresses the lows and highs seperately. It feels very natural and somewhat tubey.

The sound below limiting is the same.
