Live Herbie Hancock and Jaco Pastorius

Da hell am I listening to? I fast-forwarded past the bearded, bereted, bespectacled talking head until the music started...and that tune I'm hearing is so *not* Jaco Pastorius! I'd bet my grandkids on it.

I'm inclined to agree with you on Jaco playing on that track. On everything that I've heard him play on he's just much more active. Here's another Herbie track that he definitely played on…..

I have that CD and I think the problem for me was, just bad casting. If they went out as just Jaco and Herbie doing straight ahead stuff or like the great stuff they did on Jaco's debut album it would have been killer, but Jaco as a Headhunter, bad fit.😎

I don’t think you give Jaco credit for knowing the gig. He was hired to sling around his signature licks, and this was the period before he was out of control. I also believe he had a lot of respect for Herbie Hancock and was not going to do anything to upstage the overall concept.
