live sound vs. recorded sound

Some engineers are better than others. The last recording I did, I used my USACG J with Sadowski electronics. It was a really nice sounding bass. On the recording? It might as well have been an old out of tune Tiesco. I shrugged it off.
Some recordings do no justice. If you have ever heard Brian Setzer's big band live and then listened to them on a recording, you would see that.

My question is what do you need 3 guitar players for? Thats about 2.5 to many.

Why settle for the inappropriate tone though if you don't mind me asking?
Unless you were paying him with acorns you clearly didn't get your money's worth.
