Overdriving the preamp will not cause this symptom on either an TB1000 or SVT. Some people do this intentionally and the amps are designed to handle it. The active/passive switch or inputs simply insert or remove a few resistors from the input circuitry.
In theory, and according to the schematic, perhaps. But, I had the experience twice with an SVT Classic. After I made the switching change it never happened again. And, as I have paid close attention to amp switching options with active and passive basses using a variety of different amps and basses, I have not experienced any overheating situations that have caused a shut down.
I wasn't trying to pass bad information or start a controversy....I offered an idea, based on personal experience, for a simple check in the trouble shooting process that perhaps would offer an easy solution.
Check it out. It might help. If not, move on and trouble shoot further.
