Wow,
The clinic was great with Victor kicking it off with a 20 minute, at least, solo and ending with a two of the top local bassists voluntering to play the Yin/Yang bass and allowing Victor to use them to hightlight some of his teaching methods. I had ordered and read Victor's book
The Music Lesson the week before the clinic; so the clinic was just reinforcing Victor's thought on life and music. I had a chance to talk with Victor and Anthony after the clinic and they both were super-kind.
Showed up a half-hour early for the concert only to find that I was too late to get a decent standing spot. The real treat was that Anthony, Victor's bassist, hung with me, my wife and my teacher and another one of his students for the half-hour before the concert. It was a wonderful experience getting to talk with such a fine person and incredible bassist.
The concert kicked off with the slide number and people were hyped. Really, I hadn't been to a concert with that electric of an atmosphere since I can't remember when. Ashland, a town of only 17k was pumped to have Victor and his band perform at a venue that holds less than 200 people. No one sat down the entire evening. Two plus hours later in a set that gave everyone their chance to shine including the fabulous female vocalist the band said goodnight.
Hightlight of the show? Vic up front absoulutely killin' it with Anthony laying it down thick with his awesome Single cut Fodera. A fabulous band in a really small venue, every member of the band a star and hey- even the tour business manager got on stage and played bass in one of the last numbers. You know what, he was damn good too.
Victor is a Rock Star and a Great Man or is that a Great Man and a Rock Star. Victor come back to Ashland any time you want and bring Anthony with you.
