First off, I've got respect for both these companies. Both the cabs and amps sound great. I'm not asking for brand bashing or anything, just constructive criticism of both rigs.

I have kind of a unique situation, and I'm trying to figure out the best rig for myself.

In my group Software Giant we have a pianist who brings his own P.A. for the many synths and piano that he has. His setup includes a 2x15 Harbinger powered PA cab and a JBL powered Subwoofer.

It's ridiculous and some would consider it overkill, but it sounds awesome and he's incredible so all is forgiven.

My problem is, I've got to match his power.

We've got no guitar player, and in my bass setup I use fuzz, distortion, low octaves, etc.

I need power.

I was able to try out the LM Tube 800 with an Ampeg SVT410hlf and it sounded INCREDIBLE.

I've heard getting Mark Bass equipment serviced is tough, so I've pondered Orange as well.

I've messed around with the Orange stuff outside of rehearsal and I like it's simplicity, but when the decision comes, if I go with Orange do you think the BT500 will be enough power? I like that it's versatile and I can use other cabs other than an 8x10 or 4x10(It's advised to use only these with the BT1000), but I wonder if the power is enough for me with the 500.

Any thoughts? I wish I could try the BT500 out at rehearsal, it's really the only way, but it's nice to consult here.

Still considering the Mark Bass. We tour a lot, so the rumors I've heard about warranty work, etc have me second guessing..

I can't speak to the Orange but I have a Markbass LMT800 and it's been super reliable. I'm a weekend warrior and it's stood the beatings of a Canadian winter in my garage during the week and right into gigs on the weekend.

I'm not so sure Orange has better warranty service over Markbass as I've heard recently that Markbass has corrected their warranty support channels in North America.

Oh, I love that cab as well. The low end is just amazing!!!

The Bass Terror should only be used into 4x10s or 8x10s?? Hogwash.
Probably only for power handling reasons.
You have researched the 4ohm/8ohm switch in the orange right? Seems to be the reasoning behind the recommendations.

I knew about the switch, but had still heard it's dangerous to use the bt1000 with the smaller orange cabs.

My main concern is whether or not the bt1000 is overkill. I want loud, clean tone and I think the 1000 is probably the way to go.

If you're looking to keep up with that keyboard rig, you might need to get a cab that can take more power as well. The 410hlf is good, but it might also not be enough. Or, get an amp that can do 2 ohms and play 2x410hlf. Make that keyboard player regret the day he ever dared to bring that rig!

Wattage is a consideration, of course, but the power of the Orange *through enough speaker* could be enough...

It's all about the cab(s), but more power is always preferable to less IMHO. Personally, I'd go with the TB1K and a fEarful 121266, but that's just my preference.

ahhh! So you know my scenario! Thanks for the well wishes. Pretty sure I'm going with a Mark Bass 4x10, 1x15 and the Tube 800. Have I met you? I played in Oh My God for their last couple of tours on guitar and bass.

I certainly do. That man is a maniac. Killer player, the most unique sound I've ever heard, and the closest I can come to justification for permanent hearing loss. ;)

We've most likely met. I saw at least 3 or 4 shows with the 4-piece lineup. I enjoyed the original trio immensely, but the addition of guitar spawned Fools Want Noise, which is probably my favorite of their records.

As far as your most recent rig decision, I'll go ahead at this point and cue the inevitable discussion of mixing drivers. Wait, nevermind, I'll save TB a whole lot of bandwidth and sum it up for you in three words: Don't mix drivers.

In any event, I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing more of Software Giant. If/when you make it to Ohio, I'll be there.

My recommendation would to look at one of the 3015LF loaded fEARful or fEARless models. A 15/6 will get almost as loud as a 1212/6 if you give it enough power, and the orange amps put out the same amount at 4 or 8 Ohms. So some $$$ can be saved with a 15/6 or F115. This also gives you the option to expand to a second cab down the road.

You want to crush your enimies? Get the BT1000 and a F215, two F115's, 1515/66, two 15/6's, a 15/6 + 15sub, two Bassic15's, or a Dually.

We are talking about volumes that will blur your vision if you stand right in front of your rig. Wear ear plugs. :bassist:
