LMIII Problem/Cab recommendation?

I agree on the need for a compressor. I am waiting patiently for a LM compressore. MF doesn't have em till 12-31 :( Till then I'm making do with my Keeley but it's not great for bass (rolls off the low end)

As far as speaker choice, I was considering a Wizzy 10 but I'm not sure how it would handle my playing style. Opinions?

Thats what I like about the TA-501. I'm not all gushy about it but it does have a Tube Compressor with a 12at7 in it that allows for leveling of the signal a little, which seems to go easier on the limiter in the power amp. Also for what ever reason the input is not near as sensitive as the LMIII. This allows for an overall louder output still with good dynamics and some serious chug.

For speakers I have been using the SWR Golight series. They sound great and are just lighter than most stuff out there but have that classic SWR sound. They seem to love the Micro Heads and the price beats any out there.

LMIII + Compressore = 800
TA-501 = 1050

I can live with the touchy LMIII gain for a 25% savings. Now if I can find a place stocking the Compressore...

How is the Golight 2x10? 38 pounds sounds nice... Still a lot bigger than a Wizzy 10 however. Would a Wizzy 10 or 12 hold up to hard slap style playing?

LMIII can't run 2 so I guess the Wizzy is out :(

Not even a Wizzy 12? How would a Berg HT112 do?

Actually, now that I've figured out how to keep the gain at 9:00 and the master around 12:00 the Acme is playing nice with the LMIII. I broke out my Keeley Compressor and everything is pretty good right now :D

Actually a wizzy 12 is a great cab. I had a pair of them I used to run with a wt405. Just saying comparing a small 110 to a cab like an acme 210 is totally apples to oranges. There are lots of great cabs out there. I use two UL112s with my LMII and I really like the tone, weight, volume and portability.

I hear you on the money honey. :D

I use the LMIII with no issues like your having, just the input is a little pesky and the power amp limiter is quick to jump into the party.

I own the 2X10 Golight, 1x15 Golight, and 4 ohm 4x10 Golight. It's nice to have some choices. It would be difficult for me to compare as I've not played the ACME.

The 2x10 is nice for small to medium occasions and is such a breeze to carry. The 1x15 is perceived by my Band-mates as being much louder. It's a bigger cab and has much more down low but is still very efficient. To me the best tone is yielded with one of each. I get the punch of the 2x10 and the down low of the 1x15. They really work well together. Though I would like to hear two of the 2x10's as well as two of the 1x15's.:hyper::bassist:

The 4x10 sounds amazing though is a bit more of struggle to move. I keep the 4x10 and the TA-501 over at Gypsy Union Studios for rehearsal and recording and keep the LMIII handy for on the move stuff with choice of the 2x10, 1x15, or both.

I usually take the 2x10 and 1x15 to my 3 Piece Project cause them fellas is loud. The Drummer just pounds the Drums and wears ear plugs. The Guitar player just keeps up with the Drummer with his Marshalls. I either crank it or run for the hills. This project is a loud rock band though so what the hey?

I used to own two B2 Acmes a while ago. They are very inefficient, as you pointed, and that's the problem.

I fried an Eden WT800 trying to drive them hard, and then tried a Mackie 1400i, and that was better, but still, the Acmes didn't really move air and were not that loud.

Acme recommends 500W but I still think most 500W amps will struggle to make those things move.

I eventually gave up and sold the Acmes in favor of more normal speakers.

I've since added a BBE Opto Stomp to the setup and it helps. Seems the LMIII pre doesn't like my hot basses.

I've got a Schroeder 1212BMF ordered which I think will move the right amount of air. So out with the Acme: local sale hopefully, otherwise off to ebay

Please do let us know how you fare with the new Cab.

I played a Gig Friday outside using my LMIII into my 4 ohm SWR Golight 4x10 and man was I impressed. It was like a cannon being fired. :hyper:

I'm having a similar problem with my new/used MoMark TA500. I play 4 hours a night/once a week in a loud ass cover band and the amp has shut down twice in the last few weeks. I use a relatively new Avatar NEO 410 cab and a hybrid speakon-1/4"...Both pre and master are at 1 o'clock....use a Nordy vP5 and a cheapy Fernandes Gravity 5x, both passive, and by the last set it happens....The clip light was flashing the first time it happened, but not the most recent. Once I turned the amp off and then back on I finsihed the night at a lower level. The fan is working and I keep it unobstructed. Frustrating but the Mark Bass sounds sooooo much better than my GK 1000RBII... I think I need a bigger amp ....?!

Wow old thread. I had to move on from the MarkBass Gear. Too many issues with it. I had an LMIII a TA-501. The 501 did not have enough bottom and the LMIII got to where it would get too mushy especially with smaller cabs.

Sometimes with these little Micros if the cab is capable of dipping down low enough the amp sees it as too low an ohm load and shuts off. I had it happen a couple times with the LMIII. I played it through a 4 ohm 2x18 cab and it would shut off.

Ya, I've found that if you run most micros at their near limits, as you are, they will tap out sooner than your amps with iron transformers. When I had one, I could never get my LMII to shut off, but it would clip in the most heinous way imaginable if I got up to its limits. Fortunately, I don't need anywhere near that much power so I can get away with much less powerful micro amps. But if you're running yours at the outer reaches of its limits, then yeah, you probably should consider a more powerful micro or going back to iron transformer amps.
